2 THE RUNNING
Thoughts: attitude is everything. Press on (Phil 3). Throw off the hindrances (laziness, lack of training & discipline 1 Cor 9, people Gal 5:7 (parents- don’t hinder children! Eph 6:4), sin Heb 12, see value of godliness 1 Tim 4:7&8, ), heb 12: persevere, stick to the track, eyes on Jesus, endure opposition, don’t lose heart, struggle against sin
Intro to section –David
How you run is everything. There are things ‘in us’ and ‘things out there’ that will try and stop us running a good race. We’ll look at the helps and hindrances to running the race after we sing:
N- Songpro- Wake Up My Soul - David
10.37
N- PPT 3 Mini- talk 2- Ewen (title appears automatically)
PPT3.2 There are lots of things that can affect your running (and spelling!)
- PPT3.3 “crossword challenge time” to see what they are. Adults 1 team, children another!
o David will read out a passage of the Bible and you have to find the word up there of the thing that can ‘hinder or help’ your race! An exact word that has been read out is iup there (unless I tell otherwise).
o If the team gets it right it’s 2 points. If they get it right after clue it’s 1 point. If not it then goes to the other team for 1 point
Children: TRAINING
David Read- 1CO 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Wait until the word TRAINING is discovered and then PPT3.4
Adults: LAZINESS
What other word, implied by this passage, can be a hindrance to our race, as well
- clue (“I can’t be bothered to run for Jesus! It’s effort!”. Begins with “L”)
Wait until the word LAZINESS is discovered and then PPT3.5
Children: DISCIPLINE
What other word, implied by this passage by the way a good Christian ‘trains himself’ can be a real help to our race.
- clue (the disciples were called this because they had it. Begins with “D”)
Wait until the word DISCIPLINE is discovered and then PPT3.6
Adults: PEOPLE
What hindered the running of their race in this passage? The exact word isn’t in this passage… but the answer is up there
