Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Emphasize the importance of a godly childhood, being rooted and built up in Christ from an early age, and the role we play in living and imparting this godly life.
Good morning, family. Today we're going to dive into a subject that's near and dear to my heart - the foundation of a godly childhood and the immeasurable benefits of being rooted and built up in Christ from an early age. We'll also discuss how we can maximize our impact and influence by living a godly life from childhood.
In the words of Michael Youssef, "When our children see us clinging to the promises of God, they will grow up trusting in His goodness. If we fail as adults in praying for and praying with the next generation, then they will become spiritually unsure."
This brings us to today's scripture from Colossians 2:6-7, which says,
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."
Let's bow our heads in prayer.
Lord, as we delve into Your Word today, we pray for understanding and wisdom. Open our hearts and minds to the truths You have for us. Help us to apply these truths to our lives and to impart them to the next generation. We pray that every child will be rooted and built up in You, Lord. May they grow to know You, love You, and serve You all their days. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Now, let's get started.
The foundation of a godly childhood is not merely about attending Sunday school or memorizing Bible verses, but rather, it is about instilling in children a deep, personal relationship with Christ. It is about teaching them to see the world through the lens of God's love and truth.
The understanding of God's love: Children need to know that they are loved unconditionally by God, no matter what they do or how they behave. This understanding of God's love is the bedrock upon which all other aspects of a godly childhood are built. It is the assurance that God is always with them, always for them, and always loves them. This understanding of God's love gives children a sense of security and worth that is unshakeable.
The knowledge of God's Word: It is through the Word of God that children learn about who God is, what He has done, and what He expects of them. The Word of God is a lamp unto their feet and a light unto their path. It guides them in their decision-making, shapes their worldview, and anchors them in truth. The knowledge of God's Word is not just about knowing the stories in the Bible, but about understanding the principles and truths they convey.
The cultivation of a prayerful life: Prayer is the means by which children communicate with God. It is through prayer that they express their love for God, seek His guidance, and intercede for others. A prayerful life is a life that is dependent on God, a life that acknowledges God's sovereignty and seeks His will in all things.
The development of a Christ-like character: Children need to be taught to be like Christ in their thoughts, words, and actions. They need to be taught to love others as Christ loved them, to forgive as Christ forgave them, and to serve as Christ served. The development of a Christ-like character is a lifelong process, but it begins in childhood.
The involvement in a community of believers: Children need to be part of a church where they can learn from other believers, be encouraged in their faith, and serve others. The church is the body of Christ, and children need to be part of this body to grow in their faith and to fulfill their God-given purpose.
Adults in their lives: The role of parents and other significant adults in a child's life cannot be overstated. It is through their example, instruction, and encouragement that children learn to love God, know His Word, pray, develop a Christ-like character, and participate in the life of the church.
