ROBBING GOD
2 Corinthians 8:7-15
INTRO: Tithing is a touchy subject among Christians. We can ask for almost anything and get it except money.
Is tithing biblical? Maybe we can answer that question for you this morning.
I. WHAT DO THE SCRIPTURES SAY?
A. The O.T. Law required tithing as from God (Prov. 3:9; Mal. 3:8).
1. God required the tithe in the O.T. days.
2. A man who would not tithe, would suffer the judgment of God.
B. What does the N.T. teach about tithing?
1. Christian giving is voluntary, and a test of love and sincerity
(Rom. 12:1).
2. Faith is the primary motivation for stewardship.
3. Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:6.
II WHY GIVE?
A. Because God expects it.
B. Because we love God.
C. To carry out the work of the church.
III. HOW ARE WE TO GIVE?
A. Willfully (2 Corinthians 8:12-13).
B. Cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7).
C. Regularly (1 Corinthians 16:2).
IV. THE RESULTS OF NOT GIVING.
A. 1 Corinthians 16:2.
B. 2 Corinthians 9:6.
C. Missed blessings.
D. Missed opportunities.
