Revival
Contributed by Rev. Dr. Leslie Verghese on Sep 12, 2018 (message contributor)
Summary: Revival is Bringing Something Back Into Conscious State
Revival - To bring back to life or consciousness; resuscitate
Isiah 64: The Presence; The Proof; The Problem; The Prize
• Presence - God sent – verse 1 (the presence is real); God’s presence is real – 1,2
• Proof – 2, Mountains shake; People shake; Enemies Tremble
• Problem – 6, 7 Sin all around; Complacency (going away from the expectation of God; familiarity breeds contempt)
• Prize
o Comes after self-examination and confession of sins – 5,6,9
o Answer to persistent prayer – 4, 12 (2nd Chronicles 7:14)
o Restores joy and worship – 10,11
o Results in explosive evangelism – 2
o Leads to maturity and surrender – 8
Revival is:
• A new Consciousness of Sin (Omission and Commission)
• A New Consecration to God (All your heart; Love)
• A New Commitment to The Church (Hebrews 10:25 – Assembly of saints)
• A New Compassion for The Saints (Colossians 3: 13-14; Bear with one another; Forgive one another; put on the perfect bond of unity)
• A New Concern for The Lost (Mathew 28: 18-20; James 5: 20 – whoever that brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins)
Why Revival Tarries - 1959
? Idolization – person centered
? Denominalization – I belong to Cephas
? Deviation – apostles said, we will continue to focus on prayer and preaching (Acts 6)
? Liberalization – 1 Corinthians 6:12
? Commercialization – Gospel for ‘sale’ (Mathew 10:8)
? Mechanization – No time for prayer (Mathew 26:40)
? Stagnation – ‘I have attained’ attitude (Philippians 3:12)
