Title Revival and miracles

Text Mark 4:35-5:1-22

I never cease to be amazed at how rich the word of God is! the depths of the wisdom, the poetry, the prophetic message for mankind ,the promises of the farther and the gospel of Jesus Christ ,

The bible is the bestselling book in the world for a reason it is not just a work of literary genius,

But it is God’s word and love letter to you and me today it guides us to an eternity with God in Christ

The Gospels contain 37 Miracles of Christ.

What is our understanding of Miracles (are we bringing God in to the day today issues of our life regarding words of wisdom, Knowledge, etc.

Why the miracles happened, who they happened to and the effect of those Miracles on those around at the time and latter

Oxford living Dictionary

An extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine agency.

the miracle of rising from the grave

’Origin

Middle English: via Old French from Latin miraculum ‘object of wonder’, from mirari ‘to wonder’, from mirus ‘wonderful’.

I would like us to look at three miracles in particular

Matt Mark Luke

Calming of the Storm at Sea 8:23-27 4:35-41 8:22-25

Cure of the Gerasene Demoniac 8:28-34 5:1-20 8:26-39

Raising of Jairus' daughter 9:23-26 5:35-43 8:49-56

Jesus and the disciples have left the shore and are making their way over to the Decapolis however as we all will be aware that the crossing of the sea of Galilee is notorious for its sudden changes in weather conditions , this occasion would possibly be the work of the enemy (Satan) to stop Christ or at least render the disciples as useless and ineffective Filling them with fear.

Theses seasoned fishermen were at their wits end and their lives were in great jeopardy (let’s not think any other, they were in all intense and purpose going to die, they do the only thing they can go below deck and roughly wake up Jesus (No cup of tea no small talk ) we are sinking !! Jesus .

Teacher don’t you care if we drown! May be today you feel that figuratively speaking that Jesus is asleep and you are drowning in the whatever! Today he is able to restore you and bring you into a place of peace and a fresh start,

Jesus spoke Three words these words were not shouted, “Quiet Be Still” Be Muzzled and keep silent . Both the wind and the waves obey his command wither it was of natural or supernatural origin , However the most pivotal point in the ministry of Christ is his arrival at the shores of Gerasenes.

Following his rejection from the religious establishment Jesus makes his first visit to a gentile region and so begins the gospel and the display of the power of God and salvation to all peoples.

The Meeting with the Demoniac

This would be one of the saddest of existences in the natural. we are not sure how he came to this state, ( as Christians we are called to come out from the world not submitting to occult practices no matter how popular they may be Rakie THi Chi Martial arts, Chi, yoga,)

separated from family, friends, unable to be included in human occupation his lot was to be feared and restrained with chains, feared, sleep deprived, forced to live among the dead, to self-mutilate at to whim of the demons present, this was a man without any hope he was beyond the pale.

upon that shore Jesus stands there with the government of God he stands there with a compassion that is unequaled, with a heart that despises this man’s condition and Satan’s dominance and control, Jesus demands the name of the demon’s they reply we are legion = Roman legion has 5000-6000 soldiers compiling all the differing ranks so it was with this man. Jesus with all the authority of heaven sets this man free and demon straights the saving power of the kingdom of God among those present, the demons request that they are not tortured Philippians 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in the heavens and on earth and under the earth,

but sent in to a heard of pigs some distance away, Jesus grants this request.

the man is restored clothed, and for the first time in a long time he is in the company of others. This man is sent by Jesus back to his home to tell just what God has done for him, he becomes a great missionary with in the Decapolis. This miracle of Jesus shows the lengths Jesus goes to set the prisoner free and advance the kingdom of darkness.
