Summary: Revival is When God Shows Up

Isaiah 64 Revival is When God Shows Up

This chapter, was written, to a people carried away into captivity.

Psalm 137:1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

1. The Prayer 1 Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down,

(a) For the Person of God - Oh that thou - God Alone is the Cure!

(b) The Power of God - wouldest rend the heavens

Come:- Visibly, Violently,(Rend), Victoriously.

(c) The Presence of God - that thou wouldest come down

His Incarnation, At Pentecost, His Return

2. The Proof - that the mountains might flow down at thy presence

Mountains Quake, of Sin, of Selfishness, of Skepticism, of Sarcasm.

Sinners Shake, 2 to make thy name known to thine adversaries,

that the nations may tremble at thy presence!

Saints Awake 3 When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

5 Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways:

3. The Problem

(a) The're Corrupted by Sin. 6 But we are all as an unclean thing,

Their Filth - and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;

Their Failure - and we all do fade as a leaf;

Their Frailty - and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

(b) The're Complacent in sin. 7 And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee:

Dr R. A. Torrey. (i) let a few Christians, they need not be many, get thoroughly right with God themselves.

(ii) let them bind themselves to pray for revival until God comes

(iii) let them put themselves at the disposal of God to use them as He sees fit in winning others to Christ. That is all.

(c) The're Consumed by sin. 7 for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

Not only is God our only hope, but God is our biggest threat.

4. The Prize

(a) The Recognition of God’s Sovereignty.

8 But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

God is Sovereign; But now, O LORD, thou art our father; God is Supreme we are the clay, and thou our potter; God is Sinless Whatever God does with us, is right. God is Saviour and we all are the work of thy hand. "Salvation is of the Lord!

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.

Mold me and make me after Thy will,

While I am waiting, yielded and still.

(b) The Reflection on God’s Salvation.

9 Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

(c) The Resolution for God’s Satisfaction. 10 Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

“O God, bring back the glory."

1. A new Consciousness Of Sin

2. A New Consecration To God

3. A New Commitment To The Church

4. A New Compassion For The Saints

5. A New Concern For The Lost
