Summary: It seems nearly every bible-believing leader today is saying. We need a revival of the old-time religion.

I. What is a Revival?

1. A revival is an awakening of God’s people which causes them to become active for God.

2. The meaning of the word revival.

a. Vive means life

b. Re mean again

3. Some say, “I thought people being saved was revived.” That is the end result of being revived.

II. When is a Revival Needed?

1. When there is a state of satisfaction in the church.

a. Revelation 3:15-16; Lukewarm, not hot, or cold

b. No vision. Proverbs 29:18

1) Vision of what God can do with our city or church.

2) You, soul winning, teaching, serving.

2. When there is a lack of brotherly love.

a. Dissention

b. Jealousies

c. Evil speaking

d. Ephesians 4:31-32; Colossians 3:8-9

e. The main spring of a Christian is love. 1 John 4:7-21

3. When there is a worldly spirit among the church members.

a. Christians want to live in the world and in the church. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

b. Christians who come to this building and never feel convicted about sin.

III. Where Does a Revival Begin?

1. Reviving of God’s work in me. Habakkuk 3:1-2

a. Revival is the beginning of obedience to God.

b. Breaking the power of self and the world over me.

2. How is that done? Only when we see the holiness of God and the sinfulness of man. Isaiah 6:1-11

IV. When Will God Send Revival?

1. Real revival is not brought about by works of human efforts.

2. Only comes through God’s people.

a. 2 Chronicles 7:14

b. Blood bought. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 1 Peter 1:18-19

3. God’s people are to do some things.

a. Humble themselves. Matthew 23:12; Luke 18:14; 1 Peter 5:5-6

b. Pray. Luke 18:1; Matthew 7:7

1) Prayer of gratitude

2) Prayer of forgiveness

3) Prayer about services.

c. Seek the Lord’s face. Matthew 6:33; Isaiah 55:6

d. Turn from their wicked ways. Isaiah 55:7; Matthew 25:26

1) Neglect of God’s word. Psalm 119:11; 2 Timothy 2:15

2) Neglect of prayer life.

3) Neglect of singing, teaching, visiting, soulwinning.

4. All of this is brought about by Bible preaching. Isaiah 58:1

a. Acts 2:22

b. Peter’s message.

1) Plain

2) Pointed

3) If you are offended by the preaching, thank God.

4) I can hear messages on tithing, soul winning, praying.

5) If any message offends you, repent.

V. What Happens When God’s People Get Revived? Mark 2:1-5

1. They bring men to Jesus.

a. They won’t come without someone to bring them.

b. Romans 3:10; Acts 8:30-31

2. They began to remove the obstacles.

3. They work together.

a. Sometimes we have to forget our petty ideas and differences.

b. For Jesus’ sake. Ephesians 4:1

c. For the sake of souls.

4. God promises the harvest.

a. Psalm 126:5-6

b. We need revival!
