Summary: Psalms 119

What struck me right away was David's use of the phrase ,"revive me..." through out this psalm! I was most intrigued by what he asked God to revive him with!! It wasn't what most in our day and age would have ! Verse 1 states , "Blessed are the undefiled in the way , who walk in the law of the Lord"(NKJV) Verse 2 continues ,"Blessed are those who keep his testimonies , who seek Him with the whole heart." If we go to Deuteronomy6:5 The bible sheds alot of light on this idea of whole hearted living! " Love God , your God with your whole heart : love him with all that's in you , love him with all youv've got!"(The Message). That sure doesn't leave room for much else?! However we 21st century christians certainly seem to find tons of destractions !! Bottom line; you want the blessed life that God offers you need to be obeient to his word!! Your no doubt wondering how anyone can remain as holy as David is describing himself here? Well He tells us in verse11. " How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully following the map of your word. I'm single minded in my pursuit of you"(The Message) The Living Bible puts it this way ,"I have thought much about your words , and stored them in my heart so that they would hold me back from sin".

Notice that there's sort of an idea of preventive medicine here!! As we study the word and it gets into our hearts we won't have to back peddle latter!

It also will effect our ability to evangelise!! verse 46-48 from the Message version says , " Then I'll tell the world what I find , speak out boldly in public , unembarassed."

Check out verse 104 ,"With your instruction , i understand life; that's why I hate false propaganda."(The Message) People wwho know the word of God won't fall prey to cults!! Going further in the same version we find this awesome nugget of blessing , "I cry rivers of tears because nobody's living by your book."(verse136) The word puts in us the very heart of the Lord!!
