Contributed by Steven W. Satterfield on Feb 14, 2026 (message contributor)
Summary: The following is from David Barr, Professor of Religions, Wright State University, 1995
16:14 Demonic spirits of 6th bowl gather kings for war, “It is done”
17:14 Ten kings will make war on the Lamb; the Lamb will conquer them
19:11 Heaven warrior makes war
19:19 Beast and kings gather to make war against rider; beast captured and destroyed
20: 8 Released Satan gathers to make war against rider; beast captured and destroyed
At least 3 of these have the elements of the final battle: the forces of evil gather for battle against God’s forces and are utterly defeated and destroyed (16: 14, 19:19, 20:8)
The Fall of Babylon is shown at least 3 times and narrated 6 times:
It is announced that it is fallen and will burn forever (14:18ff)
It is shown to be destroyed by an earthquake (16:18ff)
We see the kings stripping and devouring her (17:16ff).
We see the city abandoned and hear a call to leave it (18:2ff)
We are told the city will be burned and mourned by the merchants and sailors (18:8ff)
Finally Babylon’s destruction is symbolically enacted by the angel who throws a lare millstone into the sea (18:21ff)
Structures: circle, omega, line, spiral
The structure of Revelation is best viewed as a spiraling action incorporating both the linearity of prophetic proclamation and the mythic return to the beginning; a new creation but one that embraces the old.
