Rest Day

INTRODUCTION

“Work, work and work until you drop dead.”

I. GOD AS A WORKER RESTED ON THE SABBATH DAY, Exodus 20:11

A. Completed His works in six days

Jesus said to the Pharisees in John 5:17 that God the Father is always at work. This means that His being a worker does not change. But on that given first week of the creation time, He modeled to us that all the days of the week should not be used for working. The worker must one day stop working and must rest.

This also shows that every working week must be ushered by a Sabbath Day.

B. Set apart the seventh-day for Him

When God took that rest on the seventh day, He made that day holy. He set it apart from the other days of the week. It is not to be used for other activities except for worship. It is a shift from work or work-shift.

God instituted the Sabbath Day when He took that rest. He declared that it as feast to be kept and to be celebrated.

II. GOD REQUIRED HIS CO-WORKERS TO REST ON THE SABBATH DAY, 8-10

A. Rest with Him

As co-workers, you must complete your working activity for every week in 6 days. The 7th day is not a continuation or part of your working days. It is to be a time to re-commit yourself to God, to re-charge yourself with His character, power and strength (Matthew 11:28).

The reason why too many of workers (even Christian) today are under stress and always feel that they need to perform more is because they do not rest with God. They work alone while their co-worker God is resting. They are doing the work alone without God. Remember that it is only in God that we live and move and have our being.

It is also saying to us that if the pilot is not on the plane do not fly the plane by you. It will be difficult and dangerous.

B. Observe the holiness of the Seventh-Day

The Sabbath Day or Rest Day is used for celebrating God’s goodness, righteousness, power and glory. Remember God is a jealous God; He doesn’t want to share His glory to any other gods.

CONCLUSION

"If you obey the LORD your God and faithfully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, he will make you greater than any other nation on earth. Obey the LORD your God and all these blessings will be yours… "The LORD your God will bless your work and fill your barns with grain. He will bless you in the land that he is giving you.” (Deuteronomy 28:1-2, 8)
