RENEWAL OF WEDDING VOWS

ARNOLD AND KATHY THOMAS

JULY 27, 2001

INTRODUCTION:

We are here in the presence of God to renew your wedding vows. God is always pleased when we rededicate our lives and our homes to Him.

VOWS:

(Please join right hands).

Do you promise to renew the vows, which you made when you were first united in marriage?

Couple: We do.

Do you promise to continue to keep the vows and the covenant, which you made at your wedding?

Couple: We do.

Do you promise to endeavor to create a Christian environment in your home and to help each other to live godly lives in Christian service?

Couple: We do.

CEREMONY:

(Minister lights the 1st candle).

Romance in marriage is the passion, which makes an ordinary relationship extraordinary. It is a compelling desire to meet your mate’s needs. Today we celebrate marriage and the commitment you are making.

(Have Arnold and Kathy each light a candle).

Just as these candles give more light to this room, they are also giving off warmth. Romance provides warmth in a marriage relationship. When a husband and wife are seeking to meet one another’s needs, the relationship becomes vibrant and alive. It also becomes a light to the world- a light of love. It reminds us of the Light of the World, Jesus Christ, who came and lived among us and met our need for a Savior. He is the One who sustains us as we live out our commitment to our mates. When a couple shares a passion for life, love, and service to the Lord, they fulfill God’s design of marriage.

(I want you to face one another again and join hands).

Arnold I want you to repeat after me:

Just as this candle radiates warmth,/ I want you/ to enjoy the warmth of my love./ Today I want you to know/ that I want to spend more time with you,/ talking and listening./ I know this will help me/ understand your needs,/ as I learn/ how to better meet your needs./ I want us to spend more time together/ to establish some mutual goals./ I know that God is with us,/ just as He brought us to this day./ He will lead us home/ to all we face./ I want our relationship/ to radiate a passion/ for life and love/ and service to our Lord for a lifetime.

Kathy I want you to repeat after me:

Just as this candle radiates warmth,/ I want you/ to enjoy the warmth of my love./ Today I want you to know/ that I want to spend more time with you,/ talking and listening./ I know this will help me/ understand your needs,/ as I learn/ how to better meet your needs./ I want us to spend more time together/ to establish some mutual goals./ I know that God is with us,/ just as He brought us to this day./ He will lead us home/ to all we face./ I want our relationship/ to radiate a passion/ for life and love/ and service to our Lord for a lifetime.

CLOSING

Because of the vows, which you have renewed with each other and with God, let us now join in a prayer of dedication.

(This ceremony came from a "mix-match" of materials for a renewal of wedding vows).
