VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Remember His Power

1. Definition of "Remember"

a. Put to mind, recollect, memorize, mention

You can't remember something if it's not in your mind initially. That is the Word of GOD needs to be in our mind, heart and soul.

2. Warnings against forgetting:

a. Be careful not to forget.

His miracles in our lives:

Deuteronomy 4:9 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST Himself in our lives:

Deuteronomy 6:12 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.

b. The wicked don't remember, they ignore GOD.

Psalms 9:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

The wicked will go down to the grave. This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God.

c. Listen very carefully to the truth.

Hebrews 2:1 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.

3. We must remember:

a. This is the GOOD NEWS: CHRIST JESUS's Resurrection

2 Timothy 2:8 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach.

b. Remember His Holy Covenant:

John 14:26 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

Luke 1:72 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

He has been merciful to our ancestors by remembering his sacred covenant—

The youth are expert in remembering because they have good memory. So practice remembering the Creator while you're young. Serve GOD while young and when you get old, you won't forget.

Ecclesiastes 12:1 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.”

4. How to remember?

a. Don't forget. Keep it in mind.

Isaiah 46:8-9 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

“Do not forget this! Keep it in mind! Remember this, you guilty ones.

Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me.

b. The Holy Communion is a mnemonics of remembrance of the LORD JESUS CHRIST's death, resurrection, ascension up to Rapture.

1 Corinthians 11:24-25 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”

In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”

5. Motivations of Remembrance:

a. He Himself remembered us. So we can say, "We remember, because He first remembered us."

Psalms 136:23 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

He remembered us in our weakness. His faithful love endures forever.

B. Remember His Redemption for us thru Holy Communion

1 Corinthians 11:23-25 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread

and gave thanks to God for it.

Every person irregardless of their culture, traditions and nationalities though different, we are one in common task, we all eat and drink. We don't forget because of our stomach. That's why the LORD JESUS CHRIST used mnemonics (a tool to remember) and connected His redemption for us in what we usually do 3 or 5 times in a day and we don't forget, that is our eating and drinking.
