Summary: Parents and Kids.

Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise-- "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." (NIV)

Children and Youth do you want to help your parents become better parents?

1. When You obey Your parents it reveals Your intelligence.

Proverbs 12:1 “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” (NIV)

When you rebel against your parents it says that you are ignorant.

The purpose of discipline is for a changed behavior.

2. When you obey your parents it keeps you from unnecessary pain.

Proverbs 10:17 “He who heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.” (NIV)

Our lives affect others!

Proverbs 23:22 "Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old." (NIV)

3. When your parents discipline you it shows their love for you.

Proverbs 19:18 “Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death.” (NIV)

Proverbs 13:24 “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.” (NIV)

This scripture says that parents who love their children will put penalties in place when they break the rules.

4. Your parents discipline empowers you to take care of yourself.

Proverbs 15:32 “He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.” (NIV)

Proverbs 15:10 “Stern discipline awaits him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die.” (NIV)

It is much better to get discipline in the home rather than later in life.

5. Your parents discipline paves the road to your future.

Hebrews 12:11 “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” (NIV)

6. Your obedience helps you get along in the family.

Proverbs 29:17 “Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight to your soul.” (NIV)

7. Your Obedience now will give you something to share with your children.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” (NIV)
