I. EXORDIUM:
Are you alive in the WORD?
II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
Believers
III. OBJECTIVES:
To learn that our appreciation of the WORD of GOD only comes from our Healthy relationship with the LIVING WORD of GOD -- LORD JESUS CHRIST
IV. TEXT:
John 5:38-40 (Amplified Bible)
And you have not His word (His thought) living in your hearts, because you do not believe and adhere to and trust in and rely on Him Whom He has sent. [That is why you do not keep His message living in you, because you do not believe in the Messenger Whom He has sent.]
You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me!
And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life.
V. THESIS:
Build and Grow your relationship with CHRIST, the Living, Indwelling WORD of GOD
VI. TITLE:
Relationship with JESUS brings life in the WORD
VII. EXPLICATION:
A. Author: Apostle John
B. Date written: uncertain. probably late in the first century
C. Purpose: to inspire faith in JESUS CHRIST as the SON of GOD
D. To whom written: seekers of the truth
E. Main theme: encounter with JESUS CHRIST demands a response
F. Keyword: believe
G. Key verse:
John 20:31 (Amplified Bible)
But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him you may have life through (in) His name [through Who He is].
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. No WORD dwelling because there's no belief in JESUS
"And you have not His word (His thought) living in your hearts, because you do not believe and adhere to and trust in and rely on Him Whom He has sent. [That is why you do not keep His message living in you, because you do not believe in the Messenger Whom He has sent.]"
I heard it was said, "if we don't have JESUS, all we do are all religious tasks" and it's right. Our life starts in our relationship with the LORD JESUS CHRIST, the WORD is easily forgotten and does not "dwell" (permanent residency) not just a boarder because there's no JESUS in us in the first place. So get JESUS and the WORD will dwell in us.
Hebrews 11:6 (Amplified Bible)
But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].
2 Thessalonians 3:2-3 (Amplified Bible)
And that we may be delivered from perverse (improper, unrighteous) and wicked (actively malicious) men, for not everybody has faith and is held by it.
Yet the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen [you] and set you on a firm foundation and guard you from the evil [one].
Jeremiah 6:10 (Amplified Bible)
To whom shall I [Jeremiah] speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised [never brought into covenant with God or consecrated to His service], and they cannot hear or obey. Behold, the word of the Lord has become to them a reproach and the object of their scorn; they have no delight in it.
James 1:22 (Amplified Bible)
But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].
Colossians 3:16 (Amplified Bible)
Let the word [spoken by] Christ (the Messiah) have its home [in your hearts and minds] and dwell in you in [all its] richness, as you teach and admonish and train one another in all insight and intelligence and wisdom [in spiritual things, and as you sing] psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, making melody to God with [His] grace in your hearts.
Whatever we think all day about occupies us.
Matthew 12:34 (Amplified Bible)
You offspring of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil (wicked)? For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks.
So let CHRIST dwell in us richly, make rich our relationship with Him, be established and grow in this relationship and the WORD will dwell in us.
B. Come to JESUS to have Life in the WORD
"You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me!
And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life. "
Romans 15:4 (Amplified Bible)
