This sermon explores the promise in Romans 8:28, encouraging believers to find joy in all circumstances, knowing God is always working for their good.
Good morning, beloved congregation! It is indeed a joyous occasion to gather with you all today, as we find ourselves in the heart of God’s house, surrounded by His love and grace. Today, we find ourselves standing on the precipice of a profound and powerful passage of scripture, a passage that has comforted countless souls and has been the bedrock of faith for many. We are about to engage with Romans 8:28, which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
This verse, my friends, is not just a collection of words, but a promise from our Heavenly Father. It is a promise that in all circumstances, no matter how dire or difficult they may seem, God is working for our good. Isn’t that an amazing reassurance? Isn't that a comforting balm to our weary souls? But, how do we rejoice in all things, you might ask? How can we find joy in the midst of trials and tribulations? How do we hold on to this promise when the storms of life threaten to overwhelm us? These are the questions we will be pondering today.
This verse, dear friends, speaks to us of a God who is actively involved in our lives, a God who is working tirelessly, ceaselessly, for our good. It tells us that no matter what we are going through, no matter how challenging our circumstances may be, God is there with us, working things out for our benefit.
In every situation, in every trial, in every hardship, God is at work. He is not a distant observer, watching us struggle from afar. No, He is right there with us, in the midst of our struggles, turning things around for our good. This is a powerful truth that can transform our perspective and change the way we approach life's challenges.
And we know…Now, let's consider the first aspect of this divine promise. The verse begins with the words, "And we know..." We know, without a shadow of a doubt, that God is working for our good. This knowledge is not based on our feelings, our circumstances, or our understanding. It is based on the unchanging, unfailing word of God. It is a truth that we can hold on to, a truth that can anchor our souls in the midst of life's storms.
In all things… The verse also tells us that God works "in all things." Not just in some things, not just in the good things, but in all things. This includes our trials, our hardships, our disappointments, and our failures. God is at work in all these things, turning them around for our good. This is a radical, revolutionary truth that can set us free from fear, worry, and despair. It assures us that nothing is wasted, nothing is meaningless, and nothing is beyond the reach of God's redemptive power.
The good of those who love him… Next, we learn that God works for "the good of those who love him." This is a personal, intimate promise. It is a promise for those who love God, those who have a personal relationship with Him, those who are called according to His purpose. This means that if you love God, if you have surrendered your life to Him if you are living according to His purpose, then this promise is for you. God is working for your good, in all things.
Who have been called according to his purpose… The final aspect of this promise is the most challenging, but also the most empowering. God works for our good, "who have been called according to his purpose." This implies that our lives have a purpose, a divine purpose. We are not here by accident, we are not here by chance, we are here by divine appointment. We have been called by God, chosen by Him, and set apart for His purpose.
As we continue to immerse ourselves in the richness of Romans 8:28, we are drawn to the idea of rejoicing in all things ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
