Introduction:

At one time or the other, some of us if not all of us have lost one thing or the other to the enemy. As children of God and because of His mighty hand of deliverance on us, we can

recover whatever the enemy has stolen from us. This morning, we will use the example of David to see how we can recover whatever the enemy has stolen from us.

The message is divided into:

1. Scope of losses

2. Reasons for losses

3. How to recover losses

1. Scope of losses

David and his men

• Lost their homes, their wives and children, verse 2 & 3

• Lost their peace and joy verse 6

• Were mentally and psychologically disturbed, verse 6

Note that God created man in his own image, form and likeness and gave him power to possess and rule over all other creatures,

GE 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." GE 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. GE 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

including all that is in the earth, gold and silver,

PS 24:1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;

PS 115:16 The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man.

He wished above all things that man be in good health just as his soul prospers,

3JN 1:2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

We lost all these privileges to the enemy at the Garden of Eden and like David and his men the scope of our losses to the enemy and for which we need deliverance include:

 Physical –properties, jobs, entitlement, etc

 Spiritual – emotional, mental, psychological, position in Christ

 Matrimonial – separation, fruit of the womb, etc

2. Reasons for losses

The enemy took advantage of the absence of David and his men from home to take away their properties. Like David and his men, we can loose our God- given properties when:

 We are separated from God,

ISA 59:1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.

ISA 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Your lips have spoken lies,

John 8: 47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

 We are not sensitive to the Holy Spirit,

John 16: 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

1CO 2:10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:

 We are not watchful or asleep,

Math 13: 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.

John 10: 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy

1PE 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour

The devil does not come to attack directly, but attack using agents, in this case the Amalakites who came when David and his men were away. If they had been at home, the enemy would probably have kept away or they would have faced a stiff opposition.

Same thing happens to us today, the enemy comes to take away our properties when we are careless with our lives, or when we abandon where are supposed to be.

 We are ignorant of who we are in Christ,
