Summary: After doing God’s known will God will direct us further in what he would have us do. Here are some Biblical guidlines to help.

Knowing the Will of God

Part 2 of 2

“If you refuse to obey God in what he has already shown you, why should God give you further direction? Obedience to the known will of God is important in receiving further guidance.”

1. As Christians we are called to:

· STUDY

Psalms 119:105, 130

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

· PRAYER

Psalms 143:8

Let me hear Your loving kindness in the morning; for I trust in You; teach me the way in which I should walk; for to You I lift up my soul.

God has a plan for you

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

2. Ask these questions to align your plans with God’s will

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps”

Is this PROFITABLE?

1 Corinthians 6:12

All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything

Is this HARMING my BODY?

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

Is this STUMBLING to another?

1 Corinthians 8:9

But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

Is this GLORIFYING to God?

1 Corinthians 10:31

Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Am I putting God’s DESIRE ahead of my own?

Ps 40:8

I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart

3. You know you are doing it the right way when…

…you are being CAREFUL and WISE

Eph 5:15-17 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,

making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

…you have PEACE

Col 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.

…others AGREE

Ephesians 6:6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

Closing:

Be a LIVING SACRIFICE

Rom 12:1-2 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the WILL OF GOD is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
