To encourage believers to be strong in their faith by putting on the full Armor of God and utilizing the power of prayer to stand firm against spiritual battles.
Good morning, Church! Today, we're going to dive into a powerful passage from the Bible that talks about the Armor of God, the Power of Prayer, and how we are to be raised up as warriors for the Kingdom. This is a message that is as relevant today as it was when it was first written. It's about being equipped and ready to stand firm in our faith, no matter what we may face.
Before we get started, allow me to share a quote from a respected Christian author, A.W. Tozer. He said, "The man who would truly know God must give time to Him." That's what we're doing here today, Church. We're giving time to God, to know Him better and to understand how He wants us to live.
Let's read together from Ephesians 6:10-18, "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people."
Let's pray. Father God, as we delve into your word today, we ask for your guidance and wisdom. Help us to understand the importance of the Armor of God, the power of prayer, and our role as warriors for your Kingdom. Open our hearts and minds to receive this message and empower us to live it out in our daily lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
The Armor of God is a powerful metaphor that the Apostle Paul uses in his letter to the Ephesians to illustrate the spiritual defenses that God provides for us. It's not a physical armor, but a spiritual one, designed to protect us from the attacks of the enemy. Each piece of the armor represents a different aspect of our faith and serves a unique purpose in our spiritual battles.
A. Firstly, the belt of truth. In Roman times, the belt was a crucial part of a soldier's armor. It held everything else in place. Similarly, truth is the foundation of our faith. It holds everything else together. Without truth, our faith can easily crumble. The truth that Paul is referring to here is the truth of God's word, the truth of who God is, and the truth of our identity in Christ. When we know and believe these truths, we can stand firm against the lies of the enemy.
B. Next, the breastplate of righteousness. The breastplate was designed to protect a soldier's heart. In the same way, righteousness, or right living, protects our hearts. When we live in a way that is pleasing to God, it guards our hearts from the guilt, shame, and condemnation that the enemy tries to throw at us. Righteousness is not something we can achieve on our own, but it is a gift from God, made possible through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
C. Then, the shoes of the gospel of peace. A soldier's shoes were designed for stability and mobility. Similarly, the gospel of peace gives us stability in our faith and the ability to move forward. The peace that comes from knowing the good news of Jesus Christ helps us to stand firm in our faith, even when things are difficult. It also motivates us to share the good news with others, to bring them the same peace that we have.
D. The shield of faith is another crucial piece of the armor. In battle, a shield was used to deflect the enemy's attacks. In the same way, our faith can deflect the attacks of the enemy. When we trust in God and believe His promises, it protects us from the doubts, fears, and unbelief that the enemy tries to instill in us.
E. The helmet of salvation protects our minds. Just as a helmet protects a soldier's head, salvation protects our minds. When we know that we are saved, that we are loved by God, and that we have eternal life in Christ, it protects our minds from the fear, worry, and despair that the enemy tries to use against us.
F. Finally, the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. This is the only offensive weapon in the armor. It's how we fight back against the enemy. When we know God's word and use it correctly, it's a powerful weapon against the enemy.
Transition – Each piece of the armor is crucial, and we need to put on the full armor of God if we want to stand firm in our faith. It's not enough to just know about the armor; we need to actively put it on each day. This means reading and meditating on God's word, living righteously, sharing the gospel, trusting in God's promises, remembering our salvation, and using God's word to fight back against the enemy.
