Summary: These men make radical moves Jesus, James and John, and the Father Zebedee, in this reading we will also can make radical moves.
Radical Moves Mark 1:14-20
1. The first Radical Move we find is with Jesus, Jesus goes to Galilee and does what John had done that got him arrested and eventually killed 14After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God.
2.
A. Jesus Proclaims something is near the Rule of God is a present reality and a Future Hope
. 15"The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near.
The Rule of God is over disease of leprosy if God is willing God can make one clean
The Rule of God is over being Paralyzed Jesus says get up pick up your mat and walk
The Rule of God is over the storms of life that come up with out warning He speaks to the storm "be still" they say even the winds and the waves obey him what kind of man is this?
The Rule of God is near to remove death because he is the Resurrection
B. He Preaches Repent and Believe it is Radical because Jesus wants us to turn back.
. Repent and believe the good news!" Turn from who we are and turn to who we were. Gods Creation Remember Jeremiah 1:5"Before I formed you in the womb I knewA you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
3. The Second Radical Move is with Simeon and Andrew
he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 18At once they left their nets and followed him.
It is Radical because they have decided to follow a man whose future is Unknown, Is Uncharted, Is Uncertain, and Is Unpredictable
" They are forsaking a familiar past for a problematic Future" -John Stroman
4. The Third Radical Move is with Zebedee
19When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
A. Zebedee allows his sons to follow Jesus knowing that doing so may be Extremely dangerous because of Radical Teachings.
B. Zebedee was a successful business man he had hired men and he may have supported this radical Jesus he never questions his son decision.
5. Make a Radical Move and "Trust the Power of Your God" Joshua and Caleb did:
Numbers 13:30Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it." 31But the men who had gone up with him said, "We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are." , "The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. ). We seemed like grasshoppers compared to them.
Make a Radical Move like David "I am small But My God is Big Enough"
Samuel 17:32David said to Saul, "Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him." . 37The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine."
Make a Radical Move like The examples of Peter and John, the did not know much they "Just Followed"
Acts 4:13When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
Abraham made a Radical Move by being obedient Gen 22: 2Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering Abraham follows God’s lead, for the simple and sufficient reason that it is God who is leading. To what end, Abraham has no idea.
6. Make a Radical decision and decide to follow Jesus so you can sing the song
I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus
No turning back, no turning back Though none go with me, yet I will follow No turning back, no turning back.
