Summary: There has been many risings in our history the greatest rising was Jesus Christ.
There is A Rising Acts 2:14, 36-41
1. There has been several Risings in our History
• The Boston Tea Party colonist rising. The Declaration of Independence. The Abolition Movement. The Civil War. The First World War. The Second World War
The Civil Rights Movement. The Great Awakening Rising of Christianity. Once called the Way,
2. Today’s text we encounter another rising that has created a great movement Resurrection
• Peter boldly spoke about a rising of Identity He told the men of Judea 36Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah,
• Peter’s claim is a Shock “It is the first public speech of Jesus’ resurrection,” “This message is a shock to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.” Says, “NT Professor Robert Tannehill
• This Rising of Jesus is a shock to the world Peter spoke about “Jesus of Nazareth” and accused the Israelites of crucifying and killing him. “But God raised him up,” he said, “having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power” (vv. 22-24)
3. The Rising Creates a shock of Guilt, the shock of wrong doing, the shock of era committed, the Shock of an injustice toward an innocent man.
• Peter told the folks 14all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. this Jesus whom you crucified. ‘is Messiah.
• The folks in Judea are in shock 7 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter what should we do?’ The words of Peter created a crisis for them, throwing them into a time of intense difficulty and trouble. As they faced this crisis, they knew that they had to make an important decision — in fact, the Greek work krisis means “decision.” They asked Peter and the apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” (v. 37).
• The folks realize they have to correct the wrong, fix the era, and reverse the injustice, but how?
• Peter said there’s only one way, “‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
4. The Rising of Jesus Meant
• Death was defeated, Death had no more hold,
• Rising of Jesus meant Freedom for everyone who follows Jesus — freedom from sin, freedom from oppression, freedom from death itself.
• Rising of Jesus meant that those who once apposed Jesus would now support
• Rising of Jesus meant those who once were Lords of their own life now begin to live for a new Lord. Jesus becomes the New lord
• Rising of Jesus meant instead of putting faith in yourself your faith is in Jesus and His Power
5. The Rising of Jesus was a turning Point for all Humanity
• Humanity had to decide Oppose Jesus or serve Jesus
• People had to decide to allow the disciples teachings to direct their lives from now on
• The Rising of Jesus was a turning point of “all in” or “all out” your choice
• Acts tells us that many made this Rising of Jesus a Turning Point that day about 3,000 persons were added” (v. 41). Three thousand new Christians! An unexpected and truly stunning response. And then we learn that they “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers”
