Summary: When waters are chaotic I see you and that's all that matters.
Jesus says, “I see you” Matthew 14:22-33
One night a house caught fire and a young boy was forced to flee to the roof. The father stood on the ground below with outstretched arms, calling to his son, "Jump! I'll catch you." He knew the boy had to jump to save his life. All the boy could see, however, was flame, smoke, and blackness. As can be imagined, he was afraid to leave the roof. His father kept yelling: "Jump! I will catch you." But the boy protested, "Daddy, I can't see you." The father replied, "But I can see you and that's all that matters."
1. Jesus tells the Disciples to go ahead to the other side of the Lake
• Jesus dismissed the crowds, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray
• As evening drew near , he was alone, 24the boat was distant A from land, the wind was against it.
• Notice it was the darkest hour of the night when Jesus walked 25During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.
• The disciples were terrified "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.
• Jesus calmed the disciples Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. don’t be afraid."
• Peter was inspired so he said, 28"Lord, if it's you," "tell me to come to you on the water." 29"Come," he said. Peter got out of the boat walked on the water he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
• Jesus says, I see ya Peter and that’s all that matters 31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand 32
2. This storm caused the disciples to be battered. But Jesus sees you and the battering
• Life is like that at times it pounds relentlessly:27But Jesus said to them "Take courage! I see you
• When life is relentlessly pounding Jesus sees us and is willing to help us Jesus said, "It is I." Jesus tells us "I am the door" "I am the way, the truth and the life." "I am the bread of life" "I am the good shepherd" I am the storm calmer, I am the one who feeds the multitudes, I am the one who walks on the waters of chaos
• Jesus appears during the battering and said “Don’t be afraid." Trust in Possibilities One of the Possibilities is I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
• Here is a possibility I can walk on Water even in the midst of storm “With God nothing is impossible" We like Peter can walk on the water of chaos
•
3. When the storm came they found themselves far from Land. You can’t find anything to hold on to you can’t see any hope
• When Land is Distant Doubt Creeps in 28"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, " God seemed far away I can’t see you, but Jesus says “I see you”
• When Land is Distant we find ourselves Defenseless," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." Peter says I can't make it on my own
• When Land is Distant we Find ourselves Defeated Peter begins to drawn Lord save me
4. When the storm came they felt like the winds were against them.
• When life is Against Us we become depressed because the waters are deep, but Samuel said, 17"He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.
• When Life is against us we have Broken Spirits but we must remember as the Psalmist say 18The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
• When life is Desperate again the Psalmist says 3You have shown your people desperate times but, you have raised a banner a defense you have given a defense against the great arrows
• When life is Against us and we are in darkness Isaiah says the following to a people in darkened days 2The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of deathA a light has dawned.
5. In conclusion
• Although storms batter us He sees you and that’s all that matters “Truly you are the Son of God”
• When land is distant the sea is turbulences or chaos they felt doubt, defenseless, defeated, and they experienced winds were against them, but they also experienced Deliverance Truly you are the Son of God.
"We cry Father, I can't see you." But the The Father replies, "But I can see you and that's all that matters."
