Qualities Of The Lord - Exodus 34:6-7

Exo 34:6 And Jehovah passed by before him and proclaimed, Jehovah! Jehovah God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

Exo 34:7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the sons, and on the sons of sons, to the third and to the fourth generation.

1. Exodus 34:6 - Merciful and Gracious

He is All Merciful:

Exo 22:27 because that is the only cover the poor have when they sleep at night. I am a merciful God, and when they call out to me, I will come to help them.

Num 14:19 You are merciful, and you treat people better than they deserve. So please forgive these people, just as you have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt.

2Ch 30:9 and the enemies that have captured your families will show pity and send them back home. The LORD God is kind and merciful, and if you turn back to him, he will no longer turn his back on you.

Neh 9:17 But, our God, you are merciful and quick to forgive; you are loving, kind, and very patient. So you never turned away from them--

Psa 25:8 You are honest and merciful, and you teach sinners how to follow your path.

Pro 20:28 Rulers are protected by God's mercy and loyalty, but they must be merciful for their kingdoms to last.

Wondering why kingdoms last? Kings and queens need to be merciful like God.

He is All Gracious.

The Lord's is gracious and stay that way for many, many years, until the person given grace to dies on earth, He is still gracious to them on their descendants.

2Ki 13:23 But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them, and he turned toward them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, nor has he cast them from his presence until now.

Psa 103:8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Psa 111:4 He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful.

Psa 116:5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful.

Psa 145:8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Isa 30:19 For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you.

Jonah is angry with Nineveh and wants them destroyed, he knows that when he preaches there God is gracious and will forgive them all if they repent, so he ran away not to preach there.

Jon 4:2 And he prayed to the LORD and said, "O LORD, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster.

2. Exodus 34:6 - Long-suffering

He is full of patience. He does not want anyone to die in their sins. Long-suffering or patience is part of His character.

Num 14:18 The Lord is slow to wrath and great in mercy, overlooking wrongdoing and evil, and will not let wrongdoers go free; sending punishment on children for the sins of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation.

Psa 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God full of pity and forgiveness, slow to get angry, great in mercy and wisdom.

2Pe 3:15 And be certain that the long waiting of the Lord is for salvation; even as our brother Paul has said in his letters to you, from the wisdom which was given to him;

His long-suffering will lead us to repentance.

Rom 2:4 Or is it nothing to you that God had pity on you, waiting and putting up with you for so long, not seeing that in his pity God's desire is to give you a change of heart?

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his word, as he seems to some, but he is waiting in mercy for you, not desiring the destruction of any, but that all may be turned from their evil ways.

That's why He forgives our sins.

Rom 3:25 Whom God has put forward as the sign of his mercy, through faith, by his blood, to make clear his righteousness when, in his pity, God let the sins of earlier times go without punishment;

3. Exodus 34:6 - Abundant In Goodness and Truth

Abundant in Goodness:

He will not take advantage of you, He is good towards you truthfully, with no hidden agenda.
