Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
This sermon emphasizes our identity as God's masterpieces, created with a divine purpose, and our role in manifesting God's grand design.
Good morning, beloved family of God. Today is another beautiful day that the Lord has made, another opportunity to gather together in His name, and another chance to grow and learn in His Word. We are here not just to hear the Word, but to let it dwell richly in us, to let it shape us, to let it guide us. We are here to be reminded of who we are, whose we are, and what we are called to do.
The great theologian and pastor, J.I. Packer, once said, "Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life's problems fall into place of their own accord." Today, we are here to know God, and in knowing Him, we come to understand ourselves and our purpose in this world.
Our Scripture for today comes from the book of Ephesians, chapter 2, verse 10: "For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
This verse, dear brothers and sisters, is a powerful reminder that we are not random beings in a random universe. We are not mere products of chance, but masterpieces of the Creator of the universe. We are not here to simply exist, but to live out a purpose that was planned for us long ago.
When we look at the world around us, we see the handiwork of God in every detail. The beauty of a sunrise, the intricacy of a snowflake, the majesty of a mountain range - all these speak of a Creator who is not only immensely powerful but also incredibly artistic. Yet, as awe-inspiring as these natural wonders are, they pale in comparison to the greatest masterpiece of God's creation - us, human beings.
Our identity is not based on our performance, our achievements, our looks, our talents, or our social status. It's not about who we are in the eyes of the world, but who we are in the eyes of God. And in His eyes, we are His masterpiece. This is a profound truth that can transform how we see ourselves and how we live our lives.
Now, let's consider the implications of being God's masterpiece. First, being a masterpiece means we are unique. Just as no two masterpieces are the same, no two human beings are the same. We are not mass-produced. We are not clones. We are individually crafted by the Master Artist with our own unique features, abilities, and potentials. This uniqueness is not a defect or a disadvantage. It's a testament to the creativity and diversity of our Creator.
Second, being a masterpiece means we are valuable. A masterpiece is not ordinary or common. It's rare and precious. It's not cheap or disposable. It's priceless and irreplaceable. The same is true for us. Our value is not determined by our net worth, our job title, our popularity, or our productivity. Our value is inherent in our being, in our existence, in our identity as God's masterpiece.
Third, being a masterpiece means we are purposeful. A masterpiece is not random or accidental. It's intentional and purposeful. It's not meaningless or useless. It's meaningful and useful. The same is true for us. Our lives are not a series of random events and accidents. Our existence is not meaningless or purposeless. We are here for a reason. We are here for a purpose - a purpose that only we can fulfill.
Lastly, being a masterpiece means we are loved. A masterpiece is not neglected or abandoned. It's cherished and cared for. It's not hated or despised. It's loved and admired. The same is true for us. We are not unloved or unwanted. We are not hated or despised. We are loved - loved by the One who created us, the One who calls us His masterpiece.
As we consider the truth of our divine design, it's essential to remember that we are not merely created by God; we are created for a purpose ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
