Summary: It’s a blessing to see God. This blessing is given to the pure in heart. To see the world, our physical eyes must be opened. To see God and God’s plans, the eyes of our heart need to be opened.

Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God – Matthew 5:8

It’s a blessing to see God. This blessing is given to the pure in heart. To see the world, our physical eyes must be opened. To see God and God’s plans, the eyes of our heart need to be opened. Samuel learned this lesson when he was selecting the next king of Israel. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Samuel was looking at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. The appearance and condition of our heart is very important to God. The appearance and condition of our heart means are our ways and walk with God. What is the condition of your heart? Is your heart filled with pride, jealously, lustful thoughts? Are our hearts obedient to God? God is always looking at our hearts. We can see God when the eyes of the heart are opened.

This verse is divided into two parts:

1) Pure in heart – is a standard of living. If we keep this standard, we will always see God. We cannot be pure if we follow worldly standards. What is pure must be defined by God’s standard. To become pure, we must first understand God’s standard of purity. It can only be obtained through the revelation of Jesus Christ with the help of the Holy Spirit. This revelation of Jesus will define a Godly standard. Ask the Holy Spirit to give a fresh revelation of Jesus Christ. In the light of this revelation, ask the Holy Spirit to remove all impure things in your heart. If you have not seen God, there is something impure in your heart.

2) See God – This passage says that we can see God always. It’s a guarantee that we can see God. This verse describes the way in which we can always see God. It also implies that God is an omnipresent God, that He is present everywhere. God is present everywhere, but we are not able to see him. It’s because the eyes of our heart are not yet opened. God is not far away, but he is very close to us. He is closer than you can imagine. He could be right in front of you right now. Since our eyes are closed or blinded, we cannot see God.

God is there to be seen God, but our wicked ways or heart condition have blinded our eyes to see God. Just as blind Bartimaeus was blind to the world, we are blinded to see God and God’s plans. Our eyes are blinded by our worldly sinful ways, which prevent us from seeing God. Our sinful ways and lifestyle rendered us unable to see God. Blind Bartimaeus at least recognized that his eyes were closed and that he was blind to the world. But we don’t realize that we are spiritual blind when we don’t see Jesus and His plans. Did we see Jesus even once? Are our eyes blinded to see Jesus?

In a vision or encounter, we see God once or twice. In this verse, we have an option to see God always, that is, every second of every day. However, the condition is as long as our heart is pure, we can see God. When our hearts are pure, we don’t need an encounter or a vision to see God. We can always see the Omnipresent God. The pure of heart see God as He is – in all His Glory.

When blind Bartimaeus’ eyes were opened, the first thing he saw was Jesus. The first thing we will see when our eyes are opened is Jesus. Ask God to open the eyes of your heart to see Jesus and His plans. Sometimes it may take time for God to open our hearts’ eyes, but once they are opened, we see Jesus. We can see Jesus’ working, plans, and kingdom. There is so much to explore in God’s kingdom. When our eyes are opened, we can see Jesus, as well as the vastness and majesty of His Kingdom. We have a low opinion about God because our eyes have not been opened to see God and His Kingdom. A blind person is always dependent on the help of others. When we are spiritual blind to see Jesus, we depend more on others or human help. The spiritually blind depend more on someone whose eyes are opened, such as a prophet or preacher, than on Jesus. We depend on others’ prophecies and messages more than on Jesus to shape our lives. Our lives are shaped by seeing Jesus only.

There are lot of Blind Bartimaeus in God’s Church in this generation. They don’t recognize the need to see Jesus and His plans. Their eyes are not yet opened to see Jesus. If you haven’t seen Jesus yet, plead with God, like Blind Bartimaeus, to open your eyes to see Jesus and His plans.
