Psalms 91 – Finding our Rest, Renewal and Healing, in HIM.

This Psalm, song and prayer is important to understand. It contains principles and precepts which require our response, and it shows us how the LORD responds to those who abide by those principles.

As part of their daily routine, our Jewish brothers and sisters are reciting this scripture every morning and evening with the SHEMA...standing in faith in the WORD of the LORD. Yes, it's that important that HIS WORD flood into our hearts and overflow into our lives.

Psalm 91:1-16

1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

DWELLS: ?????? yaw-shab Dwells – Hebrew means sit, remain, dwell.

SECRET PLACE - because in the OT, it was a place unknown. This is the RIGHT HAND OF GOD THE FATHER. Who sits there? JESUS CHRIST…

We know JESUS Sits in the most high and we are seated with him.

Ephesians 2:6 (KJV) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

SHADOW=protection

Psalms 46:10 (KJV) Be still, and know that I am God

If we are to sit, remain dwell and be still, we simply need to relax. Many people are anxious about what is going on around us.

This is a principle for our understanding. GOD wants us to relax, rest, sit, dwell and remain in HIM. HE’s got this… And what makes this even more exciting is that we know who is in that secret place. The mystery has been revealed, JESUS is the one in whom we can put our trust.

Hebrew learning.

HEAL: ???Rapha = Heal (Head, Mouth, One)

RELAX: ??? Raphah = relax (Head, mouth, behold)

The word for “Heal” in Hebrew comes from the root word for “Relax”. This makes sense as when we are sick and in need of healing, we are to rest. To take it a step further, for our Healing, we must relax or rest in HIM.

See Isaiah 53:4-5

So we respond: Psalm 91:2

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler,

(A hunter’s traps are hidden when set, to take its game by surprise)

and from the noisome pestilence.

Noisome pestilence = deadly diseases

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Feathers are soft and comforting in hard times

Wings to carry us above the situation.

To dwell and rest in HIS TRUTH {Jesus is the way the truth and the life]

JESUS is our big and little shields – taking the big and small hits

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

PESTILENCE that walks in darkness (unknown sickness or disease) – DISEASE, SICKNESS – DO NOT FEAR

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

Vs 5. Don’t be afraid, fear not. We will see these things, but do not fear.

Because we live in GOD’s Kingdom. Nothing can take us from where we are going.

We will see many suffer, but we are safe in HIM.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

Our response – I have made the LORD my refuge and live in HIS Kingdom

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

GOD’s Promise – no evil nor plague will come near you.

PRINCIPLE.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

GOD’s RESPONSE

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (KJV)

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, (kholee – sicknesses)

and carried our sorrows: (makov – pains)
