Pryer Is Profitable

At Gethsemane, the Lord Jesus Christ shows us how to pray before God the Father. Prayer becomes profitable if we follow the manner of P-R-A-Y-E-R of the Lord.

P-RIORITIZED prayer

*verses 36-37, (He TOOK the THREE disciples to pray with Him)

Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

R-EVERED God the Father

*verses 38-39a, (overwhelmed with SORROW, but He STILL revere the Father)

Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed.

A-SKED what He want

*verse 39b, (He tried to ASK what He ASPIRED)

“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me.”

Note: You don't have because you don't ask God (James 4:2). Ask and you will receive so that your joy will be complete (John 16:24).

Y-IELDED to the Father's will

*verses 39c, 42-44, (but He didn't INSISTED His own INTEREST)

"Yet not as I will, but as you will. He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

Note: We should always pray according to God's will (1 John 5:14).

E-NGAGED others to prayer

*verse 40, 45-46 (He REBUKED His disciples and REQUIRED them to pray)

Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Note: Encourage and engage your whole family and cell members to pray together (Acts 1:14).

R-ELIED to the power of prayer

*verse 41, (He emphasized prayer as SOURCE of STRENGTH in times of testing)

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

Conclusion: If the Lord Jesus Christ necessitate prayer, why shouldn't we? We should always pray because it is the most powerful weapon against trials and temptations. It is also the most valuable gift you can give to others.
