Duteronomy18:20 “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.”

To speak a word of prophesy is not a light thing. There is a danger in using the gift to suit their own fancy. It is according to Scripture a very serious thing. In the hands of the wrong people it can be a very confusing. The people of Israel felt it a very serious thing to claim to speak prophesy falsely and incorrectly for it meant death.

Isaiah and Jeremiah both were hesitant to speak prophecy and they were even slow to respond to the call of God in their lives. It was under such a stringent law that the prophetic utterance of the Scripture came into being. In every book of the Bible there is contained a measure of prophecy. The very heart of God was displayed by prophecy.

We are living in a time when much of Old and New testament prophecy is being fulfilled.

There are three guide lines in governing prophecy:

1. The prophecy must be beyond the power of human foresight and wisdom. 2. In prediction their must be sufficient number of details to preclude any guess work.

3. A sufficient time must lapse between the prediction and it’s fulfillment to preclude nay agency of the prophet or his contemporaries in bringing about a result.

The Biblical record is a guideline for such proof of the prophecy. The examples are many especially Israel:

1.The settling of the Promise Land.

2.Their blessing in captivity.

3.The desolation of Jerusalem.

4.Their return.

5.Their building of the Temple.

6.The advent of Christ.

7.His crucifixion and resurrection.

8.The grafting of the Gentiles into the church.

We must include the re-settling of Israel, their recovery of Jerusalem, the signs of the end-time and the preparation of the second coming of Christ. Paul sums it up in I Corinthians 14:39 “Wherefore brethren, covet prophecy.”

“The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Prophecy marches on.
