Summary: The subject of guidance is one that touches every Christian, and I am sure every Christian needs and wants to hear more about God guiding our life
By way of introduction let’s read:
1. Jeremiah 10:23
2. Psalm 37:23-24
a. 15 times in this psalm we read of:
b. Who the Lord is?
c. What He does for those who love Him?
3. God has the plan of our life, and he wants to order all our ways according to His plan. He will do so as we trust Him and walk with Him.
a. Psalm 25:9
b. Isaiah 58:11
c. Psalm 32:8-9; Ephesians 2:10
d. God is able, wiling, and longing.
e. In Proverbs 3:5-6 there are two parts to this promise. God’s part and our part.
I. God’s Part
1. Standing on the promises.
2. Now I know God has no problem with His part. He states absolutely certain, “He shall direct they paths.”
3. There are so many uncertain things about life.
4. God says to you and me, “I shall direct thy paths.”
5. He will never put us Where His grace cannot keep us.
a. The word direct means to make straight or plain.
6. This guidance speaks of divine guidance. Infallible, unerring.
a. Parental guidance may be loving, but parents are fallible.
II. Our Part
1. What do we have to do to secure God’s guidance?
2. Our part is twofold. Two steps. The Lord reinstates a definite principle by which I am to live.
a. Trust in the Lord with “All thine heart.”
1) This is basic, the starting place.
2) The one thing God is doing in every life is simply to get us to trust in the Lord. Hebrews 11:6
3) The word trust here means “to lean upon”
a) For support.
b) To lie helplessly upon your face.
c) To cast yourself totally, completely upon the Lord. 1 Peter 5:7
4) There are two aspects to this trust.
a) We are to trust in the Lord earnestly. This is to be a quality trust.
No fragments, no splinters. In other words, not like trusting the Lord in one area of life, but not all areas. I am to trust Him in all aspects of lie. Home, job, money.
b) We are to trust Him exclusively.
c) A definite principle by which to live by. A daily practice by which I live.
b. In all thy ways acknowledge Him.
1) The word acknowledge means “to see”. We are to see God in every situation of life.
2) In all the ways of my life, God is there, many times we never see God.
a) We see the problem.
b) We feel the heartache.
c) We see the enemy.
3) Place the emphasis upon the word IN. we acknowledge the Lord just where He ahs placed us.
a) Home, business, school, work.
b) Health and afflictions.
c) Tried and tested.
