Jehovah-Jireh – The Lord Will Provide
Today we are going to look at another name of God: JEHOVAH-ORE “The Lord is Light”
It is important for us as Christians to know that God is light and wherever He is NO DARKNESS can dwell
Our text today Psa 27:1-3 / Pray
The word light here in our text here the word Light is “ORE” (Heb) means bright as the sun or lightning

1. God is Light; In Him is no Darkness
1 John 1:5-7 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
God is pure light…Acts 9, Saul’s conversion – light shone around him – bright as sun
Isa 9:2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.
As you look around in the world, you can see a lot of darkness
And where you see darkness, you know God is not there
The same is true in people’s lives who claim to KNOW God
If you do not see any light…it is because darkness dwells there
Matt 6:23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
John 3:19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil
If you have God living in you then you have His light living in you and no darkness can dwell there
That is why it is impossible for a born again believer to be indwelt by a demonic spirit
The darkness definitely knows that God is light and the darkness hates it because where light is darkness is exposed
Knowing this, that takes us back to our text “The Lord is my light…who shall I fear.”
With God…I don’t have to fear darkness because where He is darkness cannot dwell
2. God is Light; He exposes the darkness (evil)
Eph 5:11-14 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for it is light that makes everything visible.
For the Christian, we should not fear evil or darkness…God exposes the darkness
Many secretive organizations who say they follow after the things of God and yet many things they do are in the darkness
If God is not in the darkness but is light…how can they be of God? (Free Masons)
Remember the definition of Light…it is the absence of darkness
No matter how dark something may be…the light always exposes it
Cave of the Winds in Colorado…so dark couldn’t see hand in face
Yet, just a small light would obliterate the darkness
3. God is Light; He guides and provides direction for me
John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
2 Cor 2:46 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
Jesus has become our light and we can trust Him to illuminate our paths
But without Him we walk around and grope in darkness
1 John 2:10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. 11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.
John 9:4 As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
Not only does God guide us by His light but He expects us to be a guide for others
That is why it is so important that we let our light shine
Matt 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Now of course, we are not the light but the light dwells in us and shines out of us
And I want you to know that the darkness does not like the light and it is important that we walk in the light…especially in warfare
Rom 13:12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
There is coming a day when the light will be no more so you and I must fight the battle while there is light and the light is alive in us
And because the light is in us…JEHOVAH-ORE…we don’t have to be afraid of darkness but rather charge into it bringing the light
Conclusion
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
God is Light and in Him no darkness dwells
God is Light and He exposes the darkness
God is Light and He guides me and provides direction for me
I don’t have to fear the darkness…but the darkness should fear me…because His light is shining in me
And where I am…He is…and no darkness can dwell there.
