-----
"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."
We can all reckon with the last half of the verse, but how about the first half? Who is the righteous in this situation?
What do you do when you don’t want to vote for ANYONE on a ballot? Remember, you can vote ’against’ someone, when they are the lesser of two evils. And good news: A vice president is just an unfortunate accident away from being president!
Like Evangelicals, there are others in mainstream religious circles today who stand for much of the moral principles of the Bible that we stand for. Catholics, for example, are often good politicians with Biblically conservative values on social and other issues. Mormons also fit that bill. I share your concerns about Mormonism in many ways, but I must admit that we share many fundamental principles, morals, and ethics.
Judeo-Christian values are what made America great. We have freedom of religion, which means a Mormon can practice their religion and can become President. And freedom of religion means anyone can wear the badge of "Christian", even if they in no way practice it and are ’chummy’ with Islam. Fact: the last 2 presidents who were ’Baptists’ were hypocritical democrats that I was against.
Our loyalty should be to principle, not to denomination. Denominational loyalty is what we left England to escape.
An example of the balance here: If put into the situation someday, I would choose an honest Mormon over a dishonest person who calls himself Christian.
ill.--McCaskill vs. Akin in Missouri [w/ discussion of Akin’s rape comments and the Biblical position we should hold to in regards to the ’exception clause.’]
