Leadership Responsibilities
1 Timothy 5:1-25
I. Responsibility to Sinning Members (v. 1-2; Galatians 6:1-2)
a. Treat older members as a father or mother (Leviticus 19:32)
b. Treat younger members as a brother or sister (2 Thessalonians 3:15)
II. Responsibility to Charitable Actions (v. 3-16)
a. Charity should be sought from those closest to the need (v. 3-8)
i. Care for those who are truly in NEED (v. 3, 5-6; Luke 12:42-48)
ii. Seek family help (v. 4, 8; Ephesians 6:2-3)
iii. Enforce this practice (v. 7)
b. Guidelines for charity (v. 9-16)
i. Reputation for doing good (v. 9-10; Titus 3:8)
ii. No tendency to follow after the flesh (v. 11-15)
iii. No other means of help (v. 16)
III. Responsibility to Other Leaders (v. 17-22, 24-25)
a. Payment of the elders (v. 17-18; 1 Corinthians 9:6-18)
b. Trust in the elders (v. 19; Deuteronomy 17:6, 19:15; Matthew 18:15-20)
c. Discipline the wavering leaders (v. 20; Ephesians 5:11; 2 Timothy 4:2)
d. Show no favoritism (v. 21)
e. Be cautious in who you choose (v. 22, 24-25; 1 Timothy 3:10; Proverbs 10:9)
IV. Responsibility to Personal Health (v. 23)
a. Do not neglect healthy alternatives (1 Corinthians 6:19)
b. Do not abuse alternatives to maintain health (Numbers 6:1-4; Proverbs 31:4-5)
