MAKING A MEMORIAL TO OUR GOD.
Exo 13:3 And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place: .
A. Man has always made a great deal of memorials. The Pharaoh of Egypt went to great extremes for people to remember them. A walk through any cemetery will illustrate the fact that people want to be remembered and people want to remember them. We need to raise some memorials to our God.
Great people and great events have monuments built the them for memorials. A walk around our Nation’s Capitol will illustrate that the USA is no exception. There is the Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Kennedy, Vietnam Memorial Wall, and on an on we could go. Take a walk through Arlington Cemetary and look at the 1000 of markers.
SO MEMORIALS IS ALL ABOUT REMEMBERING.
B. Remembering can be both pleasant and painful. We take thousands of pictures for the sake of memory. If we did not have the ability to remember we would be no more than vegetables.
C. Remembering makes us divine like God.
MAL. 3:16
Then they that feared the Lord spoke often one to another; and the Lord harkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that though upon his name.
AS GOD’S CHILDREN WE SHOULD MAKE MEMORIALS - SO THE QUESTION IS WHAT MEMORIAL SHOULD WE MAKE?
I don’t believe that God is impressed with the massive structures men have built to memorialize Him. I truly believe that the memorials that we should build are more spiritual than physical.
I. WE SHOULD MAKE A MEMORIAL TO OUR GOD BY KNOWING HIM.
Phi 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings,
II. WE SHOULD MAKE A MEMORIAL TO THE WORD OF GOD BY OBEYING IT.
2Ti 3:16 Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),
2Ti 3:17 So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. [AMP.]
III. WE SHOULD MAKE A MEMORIAL TO THE LORD JESUS BY LOVING HIM.
Luk 10:27 And he replied, You must love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. [Lev. 19:18; Deut. 6:5.]
Remember that Ephesus had left their first love.
IV. WE SHOULD MAKE A MEMORIAL TO THOSE WHO HAVE GONE BEFORE US BY STANDING FOR THE TRUTH.
Heb 12:1 THEREFORE THEN, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance (unnecessary weight) and that sin which so readily clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance the appointed course of the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2 Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith and is also its Finisher. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. [Ps. 110:1.] [AMP]
Pass it on.
