I believe we can learn somethings from Joseph concerning making our God given visions to come true.
See: Genesis 37:8-11 He clearly dreamed this dream and it was revealed unto him that one day he would sit in a prominent seat somewhere.
Note: I personally believe that in the Old Testament they did not have the entire Word of God so God spoke with His people differently from how He speaks to us today. God sometimes spoke audible, using angels etc.., Dreams in the Old Testament was one way God revealed His will. Today God speaks to our heart with the Word of God and we receive a clear vision from God what His will is for us. Either way God still speaks unto us today and He has a will for our lives.
Ephesians 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
Several things surounding Joseph’s dream
1. This was a night to remember
We are to never loose sight of our God given vision.
Genesis 41:41-42 Joseph we know is set over all the land of Egypt only second to Pharaoh.
Genesis 42:6 He is called the governor
2. The fulfillment of this dreams was not a bed of roses
Genesis 37:12-36 Tells us what I believe is a day Joseph would have wanted to forget when he is sold down into Egypt by his brothers
Genesis 37:5, 11 He was hated by his brothers
Vs.28 thrown into a pit and sold to the Midianites
Genesis 39:14 He is later lied on by his master’s wife
Vs.19-20 We find him in prison for at least two years according to Genesis 41:1
Genesis 41:46 He is thirty years old now and was maybe sold into Egypt at 17. This means there was 13 years of testings that stood between the fulfillment of his dream.
What can we learn from the man of faith?
A) He feared God
Genesis 39:9 He refused to sin against God despite all that had happened unto him
Genesis 42:18 He clearly says for I fear God
B) God was with Him
Genesis 39:21, 23 God is with us despite our circumstances
Acts 18:9-10 God tells the Apostle Paul do not be afraid for I will be with you.
C) Joseph understood the importance of forgiving
His forgiveness of his brothers gave God the opportunity to bless. I believe he forgave long before he would eventually see them again.
See: Genesis 41:51 His first born Manasseh means in Hebrew "forgetting"
He said for God made me to forget!
His second born named Ephraim means "fruitful"
D) Despite his troubles he attribute them to the will of God
Genesis 45:5, 50:19-20 He says God sent me down here
He said to his brothers "You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good"
Romans 8:28 For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his PURPOSE.
Genesis 15:13 God gives a prophecy to Abraham that tells us that the nation of Israel will spend four hundred years in Egypt. I believe Joseph somehow understood all this by listening to his fore fathers.
E) Joseph is another example of a purposed life
Psalms 105:16-19 This psalms tells God that God sent Joseph down into Egypt and he was tried by the LORD.
Jeremiah 29:11 God has given us all an expected end
If we are going to make our dreams come true we must:
1. Never lose sight of the vision
2. Fear God
3. Forgive those who trespass against us
4. See our trouble as God’s will for our lives
May the Lord Bless You!
