The DaVinci Code Trap
The year was 1988 and the film The Last Temptation of Christ had been released. The Christian world was in a fury over this Christ bashing movie. Immediately books were written, films produced and preachers fired up their sermons to preach against this thing the church considered an abomination. For month upon month the Christian world spent its time, its money and its entire purpose fighting against a work of FICTION! It was fiction right from the start but look at the effect the church allowed it to have on its ministry for Christ. Defense was the name of the game and offense (the preaching of the gospel) took a second row seat.
The DaVinci Code to me is a big diversion just like The Last Temptation of Christ was, one that is intended to pull Christians away from preaching and teaching the gospel and to get them embroiled in a stupid argument over yet another a work of fiction. The soul purpose (of the enemy) is to get us arguing against each other over this book/film, pro this con that, and at each other’s throats. Notice already how much time and effort has been taken from preaching the gospel by those who have produced anti DaVinci books on the subject. Note the ridiculous amount of time spent on Christian TV defending against a work of fiction. Countless hours wasted on something that in the long run will mean nothing. Now there are anti-DaVinci christian films that have been produced and others in production as I write. The cost of all this is countless time and dollars that could have been used to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Time, money and effort wasted and souls that are not hearing the gospel. I hate to see the enemy put Christians on the sidetrack but unfortunately they get sucked into his traps and are easily diverted if they don’t keep their minds on Christ and the mission He gave us. So for the next year a large amount of Christian believers are sitting on the side track arguing this and proving that---but in truth they have been suckered into doing exactly nothing toward spreading the kingdom of God. The enemy is clever is he not?
The Apostle Paul wrote letters to two young men who would be following in his footsteps. In these letters he gave advice on how to minister. The following is some of that advice--advice the Christian church in general needs to read again. Perhaps then we can get back on the main line preaching and teaching about the eternal Winner Jesus Christ the Lord.
Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.
2 Timothy 2:23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. [24] And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. [25] Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, [26] and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
The Prophet Hosea had the right idea for Christians, he said this Hosea 6:3 Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him.
Forget about DaVinci consider it a ruse of the enemy and lets get back on the right track of preaching Jesus.
And next time one of these diversions comes up be wise enough not to be suckered into it and end up spinning your wheels on a siding going nowhere with the words of the Gospel. I hope this notice takes you off of that side track where you are defending against a "paper tiger" and gets you back on the track of preaching or teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I do not expect this sermon to be popular because it tells the truth and many would rather not hear it.
God Bless
