Summary: Easter Sermon

REDEEMING GOD’S PURPOSE FOR MEN

Text John 19:30/ Genesis 1:26-31/Genesis 3:24/Isaiah 6:1-7

John 19:30

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Genesis 1:26

And God said; Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Introduction: When Jesus shouted it is finished what does he meant about that. Did he mean, His life was over or His vision is done, or He was defeated? I believed that when He shouted these phrases He is saying that the mission given to him by the father is fulfilled. The death and blood of Christ is the showcase above all the kinds of love can show to mankind. Nothing could equal the birth the suffering, the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus Christ even compared to the parting of the red sea. The shedding of his blood will continue to cleanse all the sins of men that would come to Him as Lord and Savior. Sin was very vital, because of sins, a loving God needs to experienced the sting of pain and death. God wants to redeem our souls that are bound for eternal condemnation, which is the heart of His mission, God wants us so badly. I believed that Jesus did not only die for our souls, to make us a new creature, not only to delver us from sin and bondage of death but I believed His death is to redeem Gods purpose for men.

I. God Redeemed His rightful Ownership-Genesis 1:26

II.

a. Ownership of Men- Illustration: The Boat “you were once mine”

-we were defeated as a sinner

-we worthless as sinner

-we were lost as a sinner

-we were wretched men as a sinner

-we were doomed to death as a sinner

-we were bound for eternal condemnation in hell as a sinner

-we were hopeless

-we were struggling in life

-we were longing for peace

-we were longing for a fruitful relationship

Everything was taken away by the enemy when we move to his camp because of our sins. But Jesus redeemed us from all this things.

Men in Black

One Sunday morning during service, a 2,000 member congregation was surprised to see two men enter, both covered from head to toe in black and carrying submachine guns.

One of the men proclaimed, "Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ remain where you are."

Immediately, the choir fled, the deacons fled, and most of the congregation fled. Out of the 2,000 there, only around 20 remained.

The man who had spoken took off his hood, looked at the preacher and said, "Okay Pastor, I got rid of all the hypocrites. Now you may begin your service. Have a nice day!"

And the two men turned and walked out.

Where would you have been?

b. Intimate Worship- relationship

God Saw Nothing But Sincere Child

A man was carried in a dream to a church. In his vision he saw the organist vigorously playing the organ, but no sound was heard. The choir and congregation began to sing, but their voices were not heard. Then the minister began, energetically, to pray, but no tones came from his lips.

The man turned in wonder to his angel guide. “You hear nothing,” said the angel, “because there is nothing to hear. These people are not engaged in worship, but only in the form of worship. Their hearts are not touched, and this silence is the silence that is yet unbroken in the presence of God. But listen now.”

And, listening, the man heard a child’s voice, clear and distinct in all that silence, while the minister seemed to pray, and the people seemed to join. Only the child’s voice was heard, because only the child’s heart was touched. “That,” said the guide, “is the only true worship in all this great church today: all the others are concerned with but the appearance of worship.”
