Overview of Cultural Mandate for Evangelism
The basic question, which must be asked and answered, is this: "What is evangelism?" And then the next question must be answered, "What is a mandate?" In this preliminary
Study as a group we will answer those two questions and face fearlessly and frankly the question of the importance of personal evangelism. Why evangelism? Why should I do personal work?
Who is exempt from this ministry? These and other salient questions are answered
Biblically.
I. INTRODUCTION
A. We need to know what evangelism is.
B. We need to relate evangelism to personal witnessing and soul winning.
C. We must know the three kinds of evangelism and how to cultivate them in our lives.
II. A DEFINITION OF EVANGELISM
“Evangelism is to so present Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit that men shall
come to put their trust in God through Him and, accepting Him as their Lord,
seek to serve Him in the fellowship of His church.”(Anglican archbishops 1918.)
God’s act of working through believers empowered by the Holy Spirit to communicate the good news of Jesus Christ to every person and people group with the purpose to persuade the lost to come to salvation.
Evangelism is the mandate for the church.
III. WHAT IS MEANT BY PERSONAL EVANGELISM
A. It is an individual reaching other individuals
B. It is illustrated in Andrew leading his brother Peter to Christ (John 14:15)
IV. REASONS WHY PERSONAL EVANGELISM IS IMPORTANT
A. It is important because it WAS COMMANDED. Lets us open our Bibles to Matthew 28:19 and read it together. The scope of this commands included all nations. Not just blacks, not just east siders and not just our family members. In Mark 16:15 the command is found again. This verse in Mark makes it more personal “Go ye into all the world, and preach to gospel to every creature.” Please take notice your were not asked if you would like to witness you were commanded. JESUS COMMANDED IT
B. It is important BECAUSE OF THE NEEDS OF SINNERS. We must rescue them from a burning a hell. The fact that men are lost should compel us Christians to evangelize. The wages of sin is death Romans 3: 23 so it is essential to give the dying a lifeline so please evangelize.
C. It is important if you LOVE CHRIST. Jesus said in John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. If you truly love him you will keep all his commands and not push evangelism off on someone else. Do you remember falling in love weren’t you excited didn’t you want to introduce everyone to him or her. We should have that same excitement about introducing others to Christ. We should be happy because we love him.
D. It is important because it GIVES GLORY TO GOD. If we are Christians we should be bearing fruit, Jesus challenged the disciples to do so. Read John 15:1-8
E. It is important for all Christians to witness because the LABOURERS ARE FEW. We must simply obey Christ however all Christians don’t. Some a have a list of reasons for their disobedience. However let me refresh your memory it was commanded. The harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few. Matt 9:37 A church that does not evangelize will become a lukewarm body with stunted growth.
F. It is important because our reward depends on faithfulness as soul winners. 2 Cor 5:10 and 1 Thess 2:19,20.

V. COMBATTING THE FEARS /WHAT KEEPS US FROM WITNESSING FOR CHRIST.
A. The lack of a genuine experience with Christ/ not sure of your own salvation and or not having the fullness of the Spirit.
B. Unconfessed sin in the life of the believer
C. The fear of witnessing
D. The fear of being ridiculed and laughed at
E. The lack of any real, genuine, heart concern.
F.Neglect of prayer life
This list goes on and on.

The number 1 reason we do not witness, is fear. FEAR is one poor reason to disobey Christ and Fear is a poor excuse to watch your family members die.
Fear makes an poor example of the transforming power that is avaible to you.
Think about Peter how he denied Christ and how bold he preached on the day pf Pentecost what happen to that scared Peter;THE TRANSFORMING POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST.
LEARN TO USE THE THREE TYPES OF EVANGELISM ( PPP)
The three types of evangelism can easily be remembered by the 3P.
These three P’s stand for the following.
A. Presence
B. Proclamation
C. Persuasion
Let’s take a look at each P represented above.
I. PRESENCE EVANGELISM
Presence, How do you present yourself to no believers and those in your sphere of influence? One way Christians evangelize is by living a life that Honors God the Father, a life that reflects the attitudes of Jesus a life that testifies and bear fruit. Know this we are living epistles that are read by men. As Christians we should be living a distinctly different way than the unbeliever. Presence evangelism also includes sharing your personal testimony. Share what Jesus has done in your life, what was your turning point , what did he rescue you from. Lift Jesus up
Presence evangelism in the home is wives being submissive to your own husbands, husbands loving theirs wives like Christ loves the church.
Presence evangelism is showing love to your un saved family members even though when you hate their sin.
Presence evangelism at work is working to the glory of God.
Presence evangelism at work is not taking a forty-five minute lunch break like your co workers when you all are only authorized for thirty.

Presence evangelism in the community is when we go to the City Mission feeding the hungry in the name of Jesus.
Presence evangelism in the community is when the Lake Erie District of women passed out blankets to the homeless in the cold winter months.
Presence evangelism in the community is when we provided Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to those who are in need.
Presence evangelism is the adopt a family program.
Presence evangelism is living a Godly life, Presence evangelism is mission work/charity.
Presence evangelism is acts of kindness. Presence evangelism is meeting a need and making a friend which will spring board you into the next proclamtion and persuasion..
Please note this if a man is hungry how can he hear the gospel over his roaring belly. How can he know God is love when a child of God wont even give him a slice of bread
II. PROCLAMTION EVANGELISM
Proclamation evangelism making the gospel available making it know declaring it teaching it or preaching. Proclamation evangelism is just that proclaiming the Word of God. Proclaiming the Gospel will not always result in winning a soul. Some will plant some will water but God will give the increase. (I Cor3:6) Just Simply Proclaim the t Gospel in the power of the Holy Ghost and let God do the rest.
Ways we can proclaim the gospel.
Passing out tracts, writing letters, giving out films, tapes , and giving out Bibles; however the most effective way is just proclaim it
III. Persuasion Evangelism
Making disciples winning souls to Christ. Persuading the unbeliever to give their lives to Christ. Be wise win a soul by proclaiming and persuading.
Examples of persuasion evangelism
2 Cor 5:11 Acts 18 :4 as well as the Alter call.
We must live the life (presence) to win a hearing (proclamation) once the Gospel is heard and understood we can ask for a decision (persuasion).
Evangelism is giving the dead life helping the blind to see. Don’t let fear stop you analyze the cause of your fear and overcome by using the scriptures provided today Pray for power from on high. Press on, cultivate the ability to forget your defects. Don’t be discouraged if you didn’t get a decision remember you have sown the seed. Fear is a serious handicap in Christian service but it is our duty as well as our privilege to overcome it by believing and trusting God. Let God Be God and you be the vessel. Yield yourself so that the Holy Ghost can flow through you on the job, in your home, or where ever you may be, Just Yield.
As Christians we must be obedient to Matthew 28 :19 Take a minute to really think about it how obedient are Do you choose today to be yielded and obedient.
