Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV)
I. The believer becomes God’s workmanship (10a).
A. The English word workmanship in the Greek is poiema.
1. It means “that which is made, a manufactured product.”
2. Salvation makes us a tool to be used and not an object to observe.
B. One’s conversion is not the end but the beginning.
1. You become a part of God’s new creation (II Corinthians 5:17).
2. You have a responsibility within that creation.
II. The believer is created to do good works (10b).
III. The believer does that which God has prepared ahead of time (10c).
IV. How does the believer discover God’s specialized work.
A. The pastor equips the believer to do.
B. God empowers the believer to do.
C. The believer enlightens the world.
