Summary: This lesson reminds us that we have a real, super hero to look up to

SUPER HERO

How many of you remember the introduction to the first superman show? He can leap tall buildings in a single bound, he’s faster than a speeding bullet, and stronger than a locomotive.

There’s spider man, batman, wonder woman, and the green hornet. What do they have in common? Well they are all doers of good and combatants of evil, and most of them have supernatural powers.

Harrison sings a song that says; some like superman, some like bat man, some like spider man, but I love the Son of Man. Harrison, I want to thank you for sharing your little song with me,

Because it reminds us that in these times of television, movies, and such great animation that these characters are fictional, and we have a real, true Super Hero to look up to.

And He is called; the Lord of Lords(I Tim.6:15),the Rock

(I Cor.10:4) the Master(Mat.8:19), the Almighty(Rev.1:8),the Alpha, and the Omega.

He is Jesus the Christ, the King of Kings, the Super Hero of all super heroes. The miracles He performed during His ministry surpasses the feats of all of these super fictional heroes.

Jesus performed many supernatural acts, a lot of them for the benefit of man, so that we would believe that he was the Mesiah, some were to fulfill prophecy, and all of them glorified God.

Here are just a few miracles in the adventures of Jesus Christ; at a wedding in Cana of Galilee, the mother of Jesus was there. both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.

Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Now there were set there six water pots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.

Jesus said to them, “Fill the water pots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made into wine, he did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew),

See He turned water into wine, and we are not talking about a cup or a bottle full, this was somewhere around 150 gallons, there were 6 vessles that held 20 or 30 gallons each.

Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law in Mat.8:14-15, Mark 1:29-31, and Luke 4:38. Listen to Mathews account of this event;

Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, then she got up and began to serve Him.

Jesus has a supernatural ability to heal the sick. Later on that evening they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:

“ He Himself took our infirmities

And bore our sicknesses.”

Then He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the waves obey.

He has power over nature, He calmed the stormy sea, and not only did Jesus calm the sea, He calmed the fear in the hearts of the disciples who were in the boat.

And He has the power to calm the storms in our lives as well, when we rely on Him in all situations he will smooth out our trials and tribulations, and there will be a calming in our hearts and lives, that only He can instill.

Just after John the Baptist was beheaded, his disciples buried his body. Then they went and told Jesus. When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place.

Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached the disciples came to him and said,

“This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.

So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

This miracle testifies to the compassion of Jesus, and calls his church, the body of Christ, to have similar compassion for the needy.

Jesus sought privacy to rest and teach His disciples. The crowds came seeking help, and Jesus surrendered the opportunity to meet His own needs because He cared for the needy

He miraculously healed the sick and then supplied food for the hungry. Even though His disciples didn’t believe he could feed so many with so little, they gave what they had, and Jesus multiplied it and fed all.

He can take what we give also, and magnify it and multiply it more than we can even imagine, no mater what it is, rather it’s money, food, your talents, or mabey some little something you say to someone, could be the seed that grows into the mighty oak tree, and bears much fruit.

One day Jesus had been teaching people who were on the shore, while standing in Simon’s boat. When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken;

and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.” So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. (Luke 5:1-11)

This Simon was later to become known as Peter the apostle. The immediate result of this miracle was the astonishment of Peter, James and John.

Jesus had the power to accomplish what these professional fishermen could not. They recognized the holy nature of Jesus and they also recognized their own sinfulness.

The ultimate result was their following Jesus. Whatever way God chooses to work in our lives, He wants us to recognize His holiness and to become aware of our sinfulness, and ultimately to follow Him without any reservations.

In Luke 7:11-15 Jesus went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.

When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.

He raised the dead, He who was dead sat up started talking!

There is no confession of faith or even a request for help. The young man was the widow’s only son, and his death left her desolate. Jesus was moved with compassion, His love overflowed onto the widow and her son.

This miracle shows God’s compassion for us, and His willingness to overcome the obstacles in our lives to help us. It also shows us His power over death.

Remember what Jesus says in John 5:28 for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear His voice and come forth.

There is no limit to the power of the Father and the Son of God they are a truly dynamic duo. These are just a few of the miracles that show the supernatural powers of our hero.

I didn’t even mention that He could walk on water, was the master of disguises, because the two disciples who were on the road that he appeared to, in Mark 16:12 it says He appeared in another form,

And after revealing Himself to them He vanished and reappeared somewhere else. And guess what else, He can fly, in Acts 1:9 He ascended into the cloud.

We know not what hour or day that He will return, but we do know that those who are alive will look up into the sky, and it won’t be a plane, and it won’t be a bird, but it will be a super hero.

We are told in Acts chapter 1 that Jesus will return in the same manner that He left. The trumpets will sound, and He will make another triumphant entry, only this time it will be to take those who have done good with Him to heaven for eternity.

What a hero we have, He died a terrible death for us, so that we could live. See He paid a debt that He didn’t owe, and we owed a debt that we couldn’t pay. We needed someone to wash our sins away, and Jesus came to save the day.

Our Hero, Christ Jesus paid the debt that we couldn’t. he has offered us an amazing grace,
