The First Sin!
Genesis 3:6,7
My, how times have changed.
Look at how television has changed:
1951-1961: I Love Lucy
1961-1966: Dick Van Dyke Show
1960-1968: Andy Griffith Show
Today, we have:
Desperate Housewives – infidelity with adulterous affairs
Sex in the City – promotes sex outside of marriage
That 70’s Show – teens that smoke pot
Cartoons like – South Park / Beavis and Butt Head
They tell us that our speech has to be “Politically Correct”
Short = Vertically Challenged
Fat = Horizontally Challenged
Clumsy = Uniquely Coordinated
Ugly = Cosmetically different
Lazy = Motivationally deficient
Dishonest = Ethically disoriented
Perverted = Sexually dysfunctional
Perfect examples of how this world wants to cover up the truth in an effort to keep from hurting people’s feelings.
We don’t want them to feel bad.
We are told that a sermon on SIN is old fashion.
· That it’s not popular today
· We need “feel good” sermons
· Pat us on the back for making it through the week
· Don’t make us feel uncomfortable
I was challenged to “Preach the Word” and if the Word says it’s sin then IT IS SIN!!! I don’t care what the world tries to re-name it to try and make it right.
If sin makes you feel uncomfortable then do something about it: Repent and turn away from your sin.
Genesis 2 and 3 gives us the story of the first sin that was committed. In this passage we learn some valuable lessons that can help us today in our efforts to live a life pleasing to God.
1. The Command of God – (Chapter 3:3)
The three most important words in this story:
“God has said…”
No matter the reason for it
No matter the arguments you could have
No matter the lawsuits you can come up with
GOD said NO and that is enough!
When God said:
Thou shalt not steal – It became a sin to steal
Thou shalt not commit murder – It became a sin to murder
But it also became a sin when God said:
· You shall have no other gods before you
And we allow things to come between God and us
· Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy
And we only feel the need to be here on Sunday AM
· Honor thy Father and Mother
And we dishonor them in how we talk to them and treat them even as we get older and move out
· Love one another
And we go an extra mile out the way to keep from speaking or acknowledging their presence
· Malachi 3:10 – “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…”
We decide on our own that we can’t afford it.
We decide the church don’t need it
We decide that it was O.T. custom
Malachi 3:8 – God says, “You are robbing me…in tithes and offerings”. (v.9) You are cursed for you are robbing Me.
It doesn’t matter how you try to get around it…
If God said it – then the case is closed. What God calls sin is SIN!
The world is trying to make Homosexuality an alternative lifestyle. Call it whatever you want, God says it is wrong!
Gen. 2:23 – “For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh”…Nowhere in the bible does it say that God joined Adam and Steve… He joined Adam and Eve.
Let me prove it to you again:
1st Corinthians 7:10
“But to the married I (Paul) give instructions, not I, but the Lord, that the wife should not leave HER husband.” (v.11) “But if SHE does leave, let HER remain unmarried…”
What about other men?
1st Corinthians 7:3
“Let the husband fulfill HIS duty to HIS wife, and likewise also the wife to HER husband.
You may say, “I just can’t control my feelings, God made me this way.”
That is a lie! God made you the way He wanted you and anything that you become that is contrary to God’s Word is nothing but LIE!
You need to fall on your knees and call out to a Holy God and ask Him to remove the evil spirit that has overtaken your body.
This world is trying to cover up their sins by renaming it and calling it something else. If the bible calls it Sin, then it’s wrong. I don’t care what other title you try to give it.
Quit spending your time trying to justify your situation and use that time to get forgiveness and began a new.
2. The Craftiness of Satan – Chapter 3:1
“Now the serpent was more subtil (crafty) than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.”
Crafty means = Skilled in or marked by underhandedness, deviousness, or deception.
Another word to look at her is Temptation. Webster’s Dictionary tells us that temptation - is “the act of enticement to do wrong by the promise of pleasure or gain.”
Now isn’t that just like the Devil, getting us to do something wrong by promising us something good?
v.5 – Satan promised Eve that “her eyes would be opened and she would be just like God”.
A. God’s Warning – v.3 “Don’t eat it” “Don’t touch it”
God knows how we are. If we can get it in our hands on it than we will want it.
That’s why Satan will use things like:
· Internet Porn that just pops in on your email
· Co-Workers who like to flirt with you
· A simple eye wink from your boss
· Giving you the craving for a beer
· The enticement of a cigarette (second hand smoke)
(Car Salesmen’s technique:
Find out your favorite color
Get you inside the car
Test Drive around the block
The Ultimate: taking the car home overnight)
Satan’s strategy:
· Get you to Think about it – get in your mind
· Get you to Touch it – get your body to respond
He knows he has you committed to Doing it!
B. Satan went to Eve – Chapter 2:16-17
God gave the instruction to Adam before Eve was ever created. This was an agreement between God and the man. So Satan goes after the woman (the other person).
You’re trying to figure out why your close friends and family discourage you from doing what God has called you to do? There are times when the enemy uses those close to us because they can persuade us.
He doesn’t come after us directly because we were the ones that:
· Heard the voice of God
· Received the instruction of what not to do
· Received the calling to enter into the ministry
· God spoke to about a particular situation
Satan knows the THE COMMAND OF GOD but he also knows his own CRAFTINESS of getting you to go against God’s Word.
