Lost In The Sauce
Where does the confusion come from?
Scripture Reference: Proverbs 3:5-7
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Confusion comes from us allowing Satan to be a rider or a silent partner.
God is truly a silent partner. Some of us have convinced ourselves that since we can’t see or put our hands on God because he is a silent partner that he is not that watching our every move and analyzing our every intention.
Some of us think that God did not notice when we allowed Satan to ride with us.
We think that as long as we don’t abuse the sin then no one will ever know
What’s worse is that the enemy is whispering things in our ear like:
1.) Everybody else is doing it
2.) No one will ever know
3.) You aren’t hurting anyone
The enemy will do anything and I mean anything to make his stay with you seem acceptable
Of course it seems like you are doing ok but let me be the one to tell you that this is only because he is not finished destroying you yet
He has allowed you to witness the testimony of some of his people and he says, “Look at them, they’re ok.”
I say again he will do anything to convince you to allow him to keep riding with you
The fact that you keep seeming to run out of gas or have small unexplainable maintenance problems has not set any bells off in your head yet
However in reality, this is causing great confusion
You know that Satan is riding and everything seems to be going ok
You even seem to be getting along better with others now
You have come to a point that you are asking yourself, “What’s so bad about Satan?”
Saint let me be the first to let you know that you are “Lost in the Sauce”
Let’s look at our scripture for today (Verse 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.)
When we see the word “heart” with the word “all” in the same sentence, that should automatically let you know that while Satan is in the car with you there is at least a piece of the heart that is not fully committed to trusting in God
You’ve heard the expression, “Give him an inch and he’ll take a mile.”
Although this is only a saying, have you ever really considered literally how much further a mile is in comparison to an inch. You should literally take a look at the differences in the two distances so that way you can have a measure of how much Satan is taking from you without you even noticing.
Let’s take another look at the example I used of allowing Satan to ride in the car with you
It would be truly amazing how you could know where you are headed and know the route that you should take but this person keeps planting these alternate routes in your head. The enemy is trying to get you to take a way that neither you or God has acknowledged and that is why the writer says to acknowledge him in all of your ways and he shall direct your paths. (Verse 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.)
The sad truth of the matter is that Satan has successfully tricked us into thinking that we are wise enough to make one decision without consulting God
Illustration:
Lately I have found myself reading articles on all of the celebrities and their many problems. One of the things that I have noticed is that the smart celebrities realize early in their careers that they need representation (lawyers, public relations, accountants, etc.) in order to make good sound decisions on their next moves. It seems as though even when they get in trouble, it is calculated and they know how far to go to get the media value without having to face any real consequences. Though we should never use many of their tactics to base our decisions on, there is one thing that we can use from them. That is the fact that they seek counseling before they make decisions and they listen to the advice given to them.
Though many of us can’t afford lawyers and accountants we can always afford to pray, read the bible and seek God on all of our decisions.
We are being wise in our own eyes, we are not fearing what will happen to us if we do not consult with God
Even though we fully realize after a brief conversation with our new rider that we have made a mistake in picking this person up in the first place, we are not trying to put this stranger out in an attempt to depart from her.
This is causing us to be confused. Though we know what the right decision is, we find ourselves trying to cut corners or do things that we have no business or go places that we have business thinking that no one (even/especially) God knows what we are doing.
We are “Lost in the sauce”
Let’s talk about being lost in the sauce. First. What is sauce? Sauce - Flavorful relish or dressing or topping served as an accompaniment to food. In other words, sauce is something we place on top of food to both blend and cover flavor. It is a cover up. We can hide some things we won’t normally accept to eat in sauce and it will be good. Like celery, and basil, etc. Sauce when prepared and used correctly can help out a bad meal. When we are lost in the sauce we are like one of the ingredients whose flavor is hidden by some of the other dominant flavors.
Sometimes being lost in the sauce can be to our benefit but when dealing with God and trying to get away with undetected sin we are only fooling ourselves
We are like little Johnny trying to sneak out of the house right through the TV room where everyone is sitting. We think that since we have a cover over us then we are invisible. The truth is that everybody sees you and they know that you are up to no good. We need to stop while it is still allowable because if we keep living like this we will go from being cute and funny to being a crime and a shame.
Conclusion
As long as we keep our hands, hearts and minds in God’s care there will be no way that Satan will ever want to ride. He knows God and how powerful He is. The enemy knows who is, what is, when it is, where it is, why it is and how it is God’s property. He fully understands that he has absolutely no authority or right to touch anything that is in God’s care.
Let’s pray
Thank you. May God continue to bless you and keep you. Amen
