Fisher’s Of Men
Matthew 4:18-19
1. Jesus’ Message
• Jesus’ message was simple: REPENT
• Jesus had just returned from the temptation of Satan
• Matthew 9:13 “But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
• Acts 2:37-38 “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?” “The Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
• Luke 13:1-5
2. The Call
• VS 19
• This was no ordinary request
• Jesus asked the men to completely give up their lives
• Mark 12:33 “And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:” “And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.”
• We have to leave our “comfort zones” in order to see God’s true blessings
• James and John not only left their job as fishermen, they left their dad sitting as well.
• Philippians 2:17 “Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.”
3. The Response
• VS 20 “And they straightway left their nets, and followed him”
• Without Hesitation
• Luke 12:29-31 “And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.” “For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.” “But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these thins shall be added unto you.”
• Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
• Philippians 3:13 “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
• We must go when the Lord calls
