“I’m Sick of the Palsy”
INTRO – I want to pick up where we left off on Wednesday night. We were talking about the passion of Jesus Christ. The “passion” refers to the period between the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, between communion and the cross. What made Jesus endure this suffering was His passion for people. What made Jesus able to endure the pain and the persecution was His passion for people. We also learned that His passion is contagious and infectious. It’s spread by contact so we should contact Him and come in contact with Him daily in prayer. His passion is contagious and infectious and it’s airborne. We catch it by talking to Him and waiting for Him to talk to us. It’s called supplication! It’s where we pray for His kingdom to come and His will be done, then we listen to hear what His will is. It’s how we hear the heart of God and how our heart is transformed to love what He loves, to want what He wants, and His will becomes our will. His passion is contagious and if His will has transformed our will we should get sick of not being in the will. Mark’s gospel chapter two gives us a description of someone who was sick of being out of the will of God.
TEXT – Mark 2:1-12 1 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. 2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. 3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. 4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. 6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? 8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? 9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
There are three things we need to do if we are sick of being out of the will of God:
1. Conform our will to His will
A. The man that was sick of the palsy was
sick of being sick because he knew the
will of God was that he be healed.
(Isa 53:5 by his stripes we are healed)
(Mal 4:2 Jesus Christ, the Son of righteousness rose with healing in His wings)
(Proverbs 4:20-21 His words are life unto those that find them and health to all their flesh)
B. I’m sick of not having God’s will for this
church.
(Mark 2: His will is that this house be packed to full capacity because it is noised that Jesus is in the house.)
(Acts 2:47 His will is to add to the church daily such as should be saved)
(Luke 10:2 His will is that we pray to Him ask that He send forth laborers)
(Ps 2:8 His will is that we ask for the heathen as our inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for our inheritance.)
(Isa 43:5-6 His will is that we believe Him to bring our seed from the East and gather from the West, to command the North to give them up and the South to keep them not back.)
2. Get rid of the excuses -
For them it was a roof. For most of us it is a ceiling. It’s a glass ceiling on our thinking and on our believing that keeps us from truly wanting more because we don’t expect more. Many of us don’t think we can have more. Many of us don’t think we can do more. Many of us don’t think we deserve more because of sin we are in. Jesus addressed the real issues. Before Jesus addressed the issue of his paralysis, Jesus addressed the issue of his sin. The paralysis could have been a result of the sin. Sin does paralyze you. It keeps you from going forward. It keeps you from going upward because it separates you from God. The only direction you can move is down, down, down. Get rid of the excuses by first getting rid of the sin you are in. Confess it, forsake it, and let the Lord take it.
2. Whatever Jesus says do, do it!
(John 5:2 Whatever He says to you, do it!)
For the next 30 days, I need you to believe with me for harvest. Believe with me, prophetically, that this is harvest time and whatever God says to you, do it! Do it now! If He tells you to sow into this ministry, do it now! If He tells you to start a business, do it now! If He tells you to preach the gospel to your family, to your friends, to your enemies, do it now! If he tells you to join this ministry, do it now! Whatever God tells you to do, do it now! Do it now! Do it now and believe God for 30 days of harvest. Believe God for 30 days of increase. Believe God for 30 days of miracles. You may not get another chance to do it now. Whatever God tells you to do, get sick and tired of being sick and tired and do it now!
