"The Worth of Jesus Christ"
Text-Hebrews 11:23-29
"By faith Moses, when he was born, waw hid three
months of his parents, because they saw that he was a
proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s
commandment.
By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused
to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the
people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches
than the treasurtes in Egyp: for he had respect unto
the recompence of the reward,
By faith he forsook Ebypt, not fearing the wrath
of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is
invisible.
Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the first-
born shout touch them.
By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by
dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were
drowned."
This morning, I hope to present Christ so purely,
and passionately, that everyone here will realize the
true worth of Jesus Christ. It would be be better to
loose everything, and know Christ, than to gain every-
thing this world has to offer, and loose Christ. Men
need to realize this. They need to see Christ for all He is worth. Moses’ parents did not fear the edict of Pharaoh, but by faith, they hid Moses and thus his life was saved. Moses did not fear the wrath of Pharaoh, either, for he chose rather to cast his lot with the people of God. Through the eye of faith, he
saw the true worth of the coming Messiah, as being more valuable than anything Egypt could offer him.
Some of you may be ridiculed at school because
of your faith in Christ, or mistreated at work, or
abused by an unbelieving spouse. The reason they treat you that way is because they do not see Jesus
as He really is-The Pearl of Great Price. If they did,
they, like Moses, would sacrifice anything to possess
Him.
Let’s notice, first of all-
I. The Difficulty of Moses’Decision
Humanly speaking, Moses was going to have to give
up much if he chose to associate himself with
Christ, and His people. And, he had been reared
in wealth, and power, beauty, and splendor. He
was well educated, and respected, and possible
heir to a throne. Yet, all that was refuge, gar-
bage, in Moses’ estimation, when compared to the
glory of the Christ.
Moses was not looking at temporary pleasures and
riches, however. He looked at them from an
eternal perspective. If he had stayed true to
Egypt and Pharaoh, it would have been Gain
Wealth & Power/Loose God. If he forsook Egypt
it would be Suffer temporarily/Gain eternal
joy and happiness.
Think about that when someone ridicules you for
your faith-They are the fool, not you. They
will hear God say-"Depart from me, I never knew
you!" Who will be the looser then?
So, looking at it from an eternal perspective,
it was an easy decision, not a hard one, for him
to make. Moses sensed a greater calling, an un-
seen hand, moving him onward, onward towards
God’s destiny for his life.
I’ve always believed in destiny. I believe God
put me here, put us all here, for a reason.
There is a place for us to serve, a purpose for
our existence.
God has not often called great men of nobility
and rank to be His servants, but he did in Moses’
case. Most often, the common people hear Him
gladly. The rich and powerful feel no need of
Him. God chooses the despised, the lowly, that
He might gain glory in making them great, and
using them to glorify His name.
II. Secondly, Let’s notice, the Deliberation of Moses’
decision.
For Moses, and for all of us, it is Christ, or
Satan, Heaven, or Hell, God, or self. It is
Choose Christ/and whatever comes
from that decision,or
Choose Satan/ and enjoy the pleasures
of sin-then go to an eternity
without God
He made his decision, and he stuck to it. He
was not wish-washy, or compromising. Jesus
said-"He that is not with Me is against Me; and
He that gathereth not with Me scattereth
abroad." So, which will it be for you?
Pilate faced the Ultimate Question, and so do
we all-"What must I do then, with Jesus, called
the Christ?" We cannot remain neutral. We must
decide.
So much that we see on tv talk shows seeks the
glorification of man. It is "whatever is best
for you, what you want the most." It is not
"What would my Creator have me to do?" It is
pure selfishness and rebellion against God.
It is blind ignorance of the true meaning of
life, and its purpose-to glorify God. It may
be called "New Age," but it reeks of all the
filth of old idolatry.
III.Thirdly, Let’s notice the Dependableness of
Moses’decision-
By faith Moses decided like he did. By faith
you and I will do the same. We won’t fear, or
care what others may say or do to us for our
decision, we will choose Christ, because we
know His true worth. He is the Way, the Truth,
and the Life. No one comes to God but by Him.
Jesus said-"He that loveth father or mother more
than me is not worthy of me. Unless a man for-
saketh all that he hath, he cannot be my dis-
ciple."
We should know that we are of worth to God, for
God so loved the world, that He gave His only-
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him,
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
We should also realize it because of the reject-
ion, hatred, suffering, mockery, and grief that
Jesus endured for us on the cross. We are val-
uable to Him, but what is He worth to us?
Lost sinner-Jesus is the Lily of the Valley, the
Bright and Morning Star; the Fairest of 10,000.
Can’t you see His worth? May God open your eyes
and may you take Christ, for all He is worth.
