THE WORK OF GOD
This is not a sermon about us doing the work of God, but rather letting God do the work that only He can do.
John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Intro: Many believers waist a lot of energy trying to do themselves what Only God can do.
It is up to God to...
I. CALL THE SINNER.
Matthew 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
We are required to preach the Gospel, but ultimately it is God the Calls the sinned
II. CLEANSE FROM SIN.
I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
I John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
We are to preach righteousness, and live the proper example, but again it is only God who can cleans the sinner from sin
III. COMFORT THE SAINT.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
II Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Again we find ourselves incapable of truly doing this job properly. We can pray for people while they are hurting and say comforting words, but it is God the Holy Spirit that is the comforter
IV. CALM THE STORM.
Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea. Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Acts 27:44 And the rest, some on boards, and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass, that they escaped all safe to land.
We can ride out the storm with the help and grace of God, but it’s only God’s job to calm the storm
