JESUS WAS JUST LIKE US
Hebrews 2:5-18
Key Verse and Theme: “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil – and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” (Hebrews 2:14-15)
1. Hebrews 1 tells us Jesus was God; Hebrews 2 tells us Jesus was man.
A. God has put everything under the feet of Jesus.
B. Jesus humbled himself. (Philippians 2:5-11)
C. Jesus suffered death, to taste death for everyone.
2. We are of the same family.
A. We are sons brought to glory.
B. Jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers.
C. We have been adopted as heirs. (Ephesians 1:3-6)
3. Why did he share in our humanity?
A. His death would destroy the devil.
B. He frees us from the slavery of fear.
C. He would become a merciful and faithful high priest.
4. Remember…
A. Jesus is the author and perfecter of our salvation.
B. We are all sons of God, co-heirs with Christ.
C. The death of Jesus destroyed the devil.
D. We are free from fear, but slaves to God.
