Miracles # 19
For the past three weeks I have been looking at all four of the Gospel writer’s account of this miracle. This is the only miracle that is recorded in all four gospels so I have been looking at them, I have been praying, and I have been studying to find out why? What is it that makes this Miracle so important that the Holy Spirit as He inspired the writers of scripture to put it in all four gospels. I believe one of the reasons this is recorded in all for is because this miracle is a fulfillment of a Messianic Prophecy.
Psalm 132:15 I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her poor with bread.
As I looked at the text I started looking at phrases that they had in common.
“Deserted place” is found in three the four gospels and it is found three times In Mark’s account
“Send them away” is found in three of the four accounts.
“You give the something” (Jesus talking to the Apostles) is in three or the four.
“He blessed and broke” is in three of the four.
“Five loves and two fish” is in all four.
“Make them sit down” is in all four
“They were all filled” is in all four
“5000 men” is in all four
“12 baskets of fragments” is in all four
So as I have studied this week God has truly given me some help and a word for you today from this miracle. Today I want to give you seven simple truths that I have found as I look at this miracle. These are in no particular order just how they came to me as I looked at the text.
I. Christ can take our little and make it much.
II. God can do great things when we are in the wilderness.
So many times in the Old Testament we find God showing up in the wilderness.
A. God met people in the wilderness.
B. God tested people in the wilderness.
C. God blessed people in the wilderness.
NOTE: If you find yourself in a difficult and trying circumstance (The wilderness) and you are wondering if God has forgotten or if He has lost interest in you. Let me tell you this: If you have trusted Him as your Savior, His heart is always toward you and He knows what He is going to do. He is not going to let you down. He is not going to leave you hanging. It may seem as though there is no possible way of meeting your present need, but He knows what he will do.
III. What He blesses He will break.
NOTE: Are you ready to be broken.
IV. When Jesus supplies people’s needs there is always and abundance but no waste.
Jesus is the Bread of Life.
V. Jesus can overcome every difficulty and feed the multitude.
VI. There are times when we need to sit down and just wait for Jesus to accomplish great things
VII. Jesus will never send people who need Him away.
They can walk away but he will never send them away.
