The Miracle of the Great Catch of Fish
Luke 5:1-11
Miracles # 04
I. The occasion of the miracle is following a time of teaching. 5:1-3
A. There was a crowd.
B. There was a boat. (The boats were fishing boats)
NOTE: Jesus got in the boat and went out a little taught the crowd.
II. Jesus asks Peter to go out and let down his nets for a catch.
NOTE: The fishing time was over, the nets were clean, the fishermen were tired, but Jesus makes a request go and let down your nets for a catch.
III. The response of Peter was obedience.
A. Lord we are tired
B. Lord we fished all night and caught nothing
C. At Your Word I will.
IV. The miraculous catch.
A. The magnitude of the miracle. There was a lot of fish.
B. The nets tore.
C. The was a need for help.
D. The boat began the sink.
V. The results of the miracle.
A. The realization of sinfulness.
B. People were astonished.
C. A call to become fishers of men.
D. The answer to the call of ministry.
Now that we looked at the text. I what to focus on the response of Peter to the Lords request, "Nevertheless at Your Word I will let them down".
As I studied this text in the past weeks as I looked at it read it and prayed over it that response has keep jumping out at me. "At your Word I will" As I have ran this over in my mind I have wondered what things have God has asked us that we would do that we have not done.
I. We need to do Evangelism like He has asked.
2 Timothy 4:5 (NKJV) But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
II. We need to have Unity like He asked.
Psalms 133:1 (NKJV) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!
John 17:21 (NKJV) that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
Ephesians 4:3 (NKJV) endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:13 (NKJV) till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
III. We need to do Missions like He asked.
Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Acts 1:8 (NKJV) But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
IV. We need to have Fellowship like He asked.
A. We need to have fellowship with each other.
Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV) not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
B. We need to have fellowship with God.
1 John 1:7 (NKJV) But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
V. We need to Forgive like He asked.
Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV) “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
VI. We need to answer His call to Salvation Like He asked
