I am the Vine; you are the Branches
JN 15:1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
JN 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
Pruning, removal of parts of woody plants, usually branches or branch tips, to relieve the burden on the remaining parts of the plant, to cut out diseased or broken parts, to increase the quantity and quality of flowers or fruits, to train individual parts to positions structurally favorable to the health of the plant, or to shape the plant into some artificial form.
We have been studying about fruit. We have learned about good fruit and bad fruit. We learned that the fruit that you produce shows whether you are a good person or a bad person. Today we are going to look at where we draw life from. A plant must be living in order to grow fruit. If you have accepted Jesus as your savior then you are drawing life from Him. The life and energy that you get from him helps you to produce fruit. You are a branch that must rely totally on the life that Jesus gives to you.
Remember everything you do and say are seeds that you are planting let’s look at a picture of a seed.

You can see after a seed is planted how it grows. Your words and your actions are just like these seeds. They will grow and produce fruit one day. But whether that fruit will be good fruit or bad fruit is up to you. Only you can decide to choose to do bad or good in your life. Your choice then determines if you are a good branch or a bad branch.
GAL 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
Jesus said that if we would remain in him and we would keep him in us then we would bear a lot of fruit, specifically good fruit. But we can’t do anything good without him living inside of us. These are the choices you will make on a daily basis
1) Will I live my life to please and honor God today?
2) Will I let God live in me and use me today?
3) Is what I am doing producing good fruit or bad fruit?
4) What would Jesus do or say in this situation?
If you are a good branch you will be pruned from time to time so that you can continue to produce even more fruit. With flowers the term is called deadheading. That is when you cut of the old dead flower so that the plant will produce even more. But if you’re a bad branch (person) or an unfruitful branch (person) you will get cut completely off and put aside to wither until its time for the fire (non-christian).
