GOOD GIFTS FROM THE FATHER
Luke 11:1-13
Key Verse and Theme: “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:13)
1. Fathers answer their children. Luke 11:9-10
A. The Father in Heaven answers everyone of your prayers.
B. This verse is sometimes misinterpreted.
C. The Father answers your request, gives you what you seek, and opens the door when you knock. The answers you get may or may not be what you requested.
2. Fathers listen to persistent children. Luke 11:8
A. It is not because the Father is your friend that he gives you things, it is because of your persistence in your request.
B. The man does not give his friend bread just because he is a friend. He gives the friend bread because he asks with boldness and persistence.
3. Fathers know how to give gifts to their children. Luke 11:11-12
A. Fathers give things to their children that they need.
B. Fathers do not give things to their children that will bring them harm.
4. Our Heavenly Father is the same as an earthly father. Luke 11:13
A. If my earthly father knows how to give good gifts, so does the Heavenly Father.
B. Think about the good gifts the Heavenly Father gives.
C. The gift of the Holy Spirit is far greater than the gifts of our earthly fathers.
