Summary: If we were to really look at what is hindering us we would realize that it is the smallest thing.

We Let The Smallest Things Come Between Us and God

Scripture Reference: Genesis 3:6 (KJV)

Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

When God created man he was showing off to the world how he could create something that was like him (Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.). Man was supposed to have almost the same power and authority as God. In fact, man was supposed to command complete submission of everything around him when God was away. This was truly a match made in heaven. The only thing that God told man to stay away from was the tree that bared the forbidden fruit.

In (Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.) God told Adam directly not to eat of the fruit of this tree. Though he had shown Adam his goodness and given him the responsibility as ruler over the world God gave Adam one simple law that he was not to break. God wanted Adam to never partake from a certain tree. This seemed so simple for a man who had so much.

What is that one simple thing that God has told us not to do?

Are we doing it anyway?

Do we think that a God who is everywhere at every time does not see everything that we are doing?

How do we think that he controls every little move you make (when we are in his will) without being there to see those moves.

Since Adam there have been many men great and small to lose many things both of great importance and of little significance but nothing can compare to the loss that Adam took by committing this one little sin. Since the day of Adam God has not gained any power neither has he lost any power he is still the same God able to do all things. We have to ask ourselves with all of the big sins that we have committed how should we ever expect to be allowed to even look into heaven.

Not only did Adam sin and lose the kingdom but he also lost his mind. It would seem that when we make the biggest mistake that we have ever made or will ever make the one thing that we want to do for certain is get help. It would take a man who has lost his whole mind to hide from the one person that could help them. In (Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.) we see Adam and Eve trying to hide from God almighty. In my opinion I would have to run to him to save me.

Satan still has us running and hiding from God just as he did Adam in this particular verse. Man has the audacity to think and even attempt to hide when they sin as if there were a place that they could hide. When a person finds himself trying to hide from God he will look for the deepest darkest corner of the world that he could find. (Doesn’t that sound like somewhere that Satan would want to live.) In other words when we think that we are hiding from God what we are actually doing is getting closer to Satan.

Satan is doing what he does best, he is trying to destroy your mind. He wants to blur your vision that you may destroy yourself. He doesn’t have power but if he could only make you take the power that you have and use it against God then he has you where he wants you. Wouldn’t that be a perfect way for Satan to start your demise, by making you think that you don’t want God to see you.

God had given Adam the direct assignment to rule his entire world with no competition or worries yet he let the smallest thing (forbidden fruit) completely take him out of the divine will of God. Just as he did with Adam, God has given us the power to rule our world as well. Many of us would rather not receive this blessing because of the enormous responsibility that comes along with being in charge but it is true, “We are more than conquerors“.

Many people doubt that this sermon is entirely right but I am right and the devil is a liar. The reason you can not feel all of the power of a ruler is because of your ignorance to the will of God in your life. We must submit completely to the will of God in our lives to truly be able to handle the things that he has for us. The world around us is truly ours if only we can believe.

(Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.) – Just as he does today, he gave Adam a very heavy schedule of things to keep him busy yet Adam found the time and energy to do more than what God said and to even be disobedient.

As we look at the list of chores that Adam was charged to do we should notice that none of them were unpleasant. God told them to:

Be Fruitful - Very productive; producing fruit in abundance;

as fruitful soil; a fruitful tree; a fruitful season

2. Multiply - To increase in number; to make more by natural

generation or production, or by addition;

Replenish - To fill; to stock with numbers or abundance. The

magazines are replenished with corn. The springs are

replenished with water.

Subdue - To conquer by force or the exertion of superior

power, and bring into permanent subjection; to reduce under

dominion.

Have Dominion - Sovereign or supreme authority; the power

of governing and controlling.

Let’s compare what God was telling Adam and Eve to do to an earthly father telling his son to take this Car, House, Job, Money, etc. and go out and be fruitful. This would mean that the father would expect the son to work hard and gain possession of better car, a larger house, prosperous job and to live peaceably with his wife. The earthly father would want the son to produce to a level in which he could give back a portion to the father.

The father would also expect the son to multiply which would mean show an increase. Perhaps this would mean an increase in money, children, etc. In other words he would be expected to take what he had and make more.

If the earthly father told the son to replenish what he had given him. This would mean that the father would expect the son to fill those things up. This would mean that at one time there had to be plenty of whatever is lacking available. The son would have the power to replenish those things from the father

Next, the father wanted the son to subdue what he had been given. This meant that the father wanted the son to put everything that he had into subjection. The only way that this could be done was for the son to create rules for everything to go by. This is what most men struggle with. We want to put everything around us into subjection but we don’t want to submit completely ourselves. There is no way that anything around you will ever give you the proper respect without you first giving the proper respect to God.

Lastly the father told the son to have dominion over everything. This meant the father expected the son to have supreme authority over everything that he had been given. We will never have dominion over anything without the wisdom of God leading our every move. We should never try to move an inch without the wisdom of God.

They were just like many of us today. We do not have any idea on what it takes to produce fruit or to take what we have and multiply it or how to replenish the things that have been lost or stolen. Somehow Satan has tricked us into thinking that we no longer have the word from God to subdue or have dominion over the things that we were blessed with by God.

CONCLUSION

(Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.)

– Adam fell to the temptation from Satan and sinned before the Lord. Adam let the smallest thing (a piece of forbidden fruit) stand between him and his true destiny. He let something that he could have easily survived without stand between him and God. He let a piece of fruit take him out. What is our forbidden fruit that we are allowing to stand between us and God? Are we allowing a piece of fruit hold us back from what God has called us to do? If we are, we need to rebuke that fruit and move forward.

Let’s Pray

Thank You. May God continue to bless you and keep you. Amen
